Thumbs up While shopping...I got a compliment (sort of)

I was in a local clothing store yesterday with my teen daughter. When we got to the counter we put our clothing on the counter... As the cashier was ringing the clothing up there was a pair of slacks on the right... She said "Those aren't yours...they can't be...they are a Plus Size". Ok, maybe not a "true" compliment but I liked it and it made me feel good that I am no longer looked upon as being a Plus SIze (which I was for a number of years).

Default Congrats!

That *is* a great feeling! Congrats!

I had the opposite happen to me...I bought a set of thongs for my sister in size small as a gift. THe person at the counter said "I don't mean to be rude, but are these for you? You might want to check the size"

Good grief!

Patti

Patti, I had that happen to me, except they were for me. I went to get some shorts and I *never* clothes shop. Seriously, it has been 2 years and 70+lb since I went shopping - I just get stuff adjusted to fit, wear hand-me-downs, or wear gym wear when out running errands (I telecommute, so it is not a big issue). I was at my smallest ever, at my goal, and I had no clue what size I was. The saleslady asked me and I said tentatively "Medium?" cause when I got married and was a little bigger I was a Medium, so that was the only referrence I had. She looked at the size of my thighs and said "We'll start with the Large", implying even that wouldn't fit. Damn, that hurt.

The end of that story is that the Large was too big, and even the Medium was a bit baggy, but I am not sure I like the idea that I look fatter than I am. When I was 230lb I looked thinner, people usually guessed me 1 clothes size smaller. Now I look fatter. Go figure.

Default Aaack

AAACK! That's not nice....But how great that the mediums were baggy!

RIght now I am wearing a lot of clothes that are too big for me and I find that people have no ide what size I am. A friend recently lost a lot of weight-- she went from size 16 to 8 and she gave me some of her clothes. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) the clothes are too big for me. I think she had no idea because I haven't started to wear the size that fits yet.

You made me think of a few years ago , I was in Sears looking at mattresses ,I told the saleslady I liked the thick pillow top mattresses , she said and these are her words" with the baby on the way you need that extra support"
I just smiled and I dont even remember what my reply was , I just wanted to get the heck out of there.
I am glad she didnt' say 'when are you do?'
I wouldve told her 5 yrs ago.
