Cool Green tea?

Just a quick question, I have been trying to keep under 20 g per day, and have been doing a good job of it, though recently I had some green tea (2 cups) and was wondering if this is a good or bad thing for atkins type diets? Also, what are the effects of caffiene like coffee etc?

Ok, I haven't found the carb count for you, but I am sure it is very low. But here is a link on the benefits of grean tea.

http://www.viable-herbal.com/herbdesc2/1greente.htm

Personally, I am a big fan of green tea (and red tea which really isn't a tea) because of the anti-oxidents. Also, Atkins uses grean tea extract in this Accel formula to help burn fat. Green tea does have some caffiene but I have never had a problem with it.

I also take grean tea extract as an herbal supplement from time to time. It gives me lots of energy.

I'm curious about this too. I was drinking regular green tea, then realized that there is also decaf green tea. Which is acceptable?

I don't feel comfortable commenting on whether to use cafeine or not becasue some people have no problem with it and others say that it stalls them.

However, I would like to give you all some information on Red Tea which does not have cafeine and taste even better than green tea. Red Tea is not a tea, it is an herb from the South African Rooibos plant. It is naturally sweet and has zero carbs or calories. I have made it both Iced and hot. My mom is the one who turned me on to this. Here is a link to the website of the brand I buy:

http://www.kalahariusa.com/

So if you are concerned about cafeine or feel you are using way to much artificial sweetner, or want the health effects of antioxidants, than this may be the tea for you.

It taste really good too!

Default Green light for Green tea

Green tea is an active ingredient in many weight loss products and certainly consistent with an LC diet.

According to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition "consumption of green tea produced thermogenesis and increased energy expenditure and fat oxidation" in humans.

Green tea is an active ingredient used in many of the top weight loss products. When a weight loss product claims it contains natural ingredients, green tea is nearly always in the list.

Green tea contains high values of antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight the causes of many cancers.

Green tea provides Polysaccharides, Flavonoids, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, R-Amino Butyric Acid and Fluoride in it's natural state. Vitamin C and Vitamin E are vitamins that come under the heading of antioxidants.

Finally no carbs.

Finally finally. It tastes like stewed gnats pee!

Not if you buy Jasmine green tea -- then it tastes like flowers.

(Gnat's pee indeed!)

Never knew people out there drank gnat's pee? Is it low carb?

I like the taste of green tea, but you have to be careful not to over brew it or it will taste bitter.

Also, brands vary drastically in taste. I don't like Celestial Seasonings but prefer Long Life organic.

I'm going to look into this. I love hot tea, especially when it's cold at work, but I don't like having to put a sweetener in it to make it taste good. Thanks for the info!

Lipton makes a decaffeinated (sp?) green tea. It is very good.

Smile Red Tea

Have any of you tried Red Tea? I got a canister at Barnes and Nobel and its caffeine free with even more antioxidants than green tea. I believe the brand is Republic of Tea. They also have green and white tea. And best of all. No carbs

Lessara,

I love Red Tea. I first tried it at my moms house. The thing I like best is its natural sweetness. There is no need to add Splenda. Very smooth and yummy!

Smile I agree

Red tea really doesn't need splenda, I only use a half a packet in a 16oz cup. Now the red tea comes with other flavors such as tropical and vanilla.. the site says these are also 0 carbs. I added one just in case.
