Question To those of you whose hair started falling out...

Did it grow back? How long did the scary clumps keep showing up in your brushes and combs?

For probably two months now, my hair has been leaping off my head. I remember reading a post explaining this was normal with weight loss and I was comforted, but I'm getting a little nervous. I do have lots of little hairs poking up, meaning it's growing back, but I'm still finding lots of hairs in the brush. Someone reassure me!

I shed hair like crazy for about four months, but not so much that it was noticeable to anyone but me. I had a lot of hair to start with, and it's actually a little more manageable now that there's less of it -- I don't break ponytail holders any more, and it's easier to put it up. It's been growing back for a while now, but my hair's very long, so it'll take a while for the new hairs to catch up. The "wispies" drive me crazy too, though!

I had the same problem and was beginning to think I would end up bald. I had my doctor check my blood work and this is what she found. I was not anemic, but my ferritin levels were low. Ferritin is what causes your body to store iron. A classic symptom of low ferritin is hair loss. Hairloss can alos by a symptom of thyroid problems as well.

I started taking an iron supplement and within a week or two the hairloss had stopped. I have continued with the iron and added biotin and amino acids l-cartinine and l-glutamine and I am feeling great!
Hope this helps!
Catherine

Yep, that's the link I had seen before......"Often the effect is not noticeable to others, although seeing the increased quantities of shed hairs is disturbing to their owner."

Indeed.

Question though: Catherine says iron cured her, while that page says make sure to take a multivitamin without iron.

Obviously, iron was appropriate for Catherine, because her blood work showed her ferritin levels to be low.
So I think it would be a good idea for you to discuss this with your doctor. After some blood work, you'll know whether or not you need iron.

Have you followed the other recommendations?

I hope your hair soon grows back, more shiny and healthy than ever.

Rosebud

Thanks Rosebud. Unfortunately, I don't have a doctor so I can't get bloodwork done......But I'm going to start taking more supplements in general. I usually forget to take even the basic multi vitamin.

I'm with atlee. I had a very thick head of hair and it's now what is probably "normal". It's certainly a lot more manageable and easier to put in a ponytail. Unfortunately, all the wispies seem to be grey. I didn't know I had so much grey hair. But of course, now they're all standing to attention right on top of my bonce where everyone can see -- they're GREY! Aaagh.

Anyhow, I'm just glad they're not falling out as much. And since I didn't go bald I didn't ever really worry about it. Plus I take Atkins multivitamins every day with the essential oils. And I'm quite sure nobody noticed my hairloss either.
