Loose skin is a problem later on. A lot of people choose to have surgery.

How old are you?

If you are 25 or younger, you will probably absorb most of the skin over time.

If you are 40 or older, there isn't much chance that you'll absorb most of it and will either have to settle with the extra skin or have surgery.

Exercise and muscle building can help tighten the skin back up, but muscle is 1/3 as dense as fat, so it won't fill the skin as well as fat did.

I've lost 50lbs and have to lose another 25. I already have some loose skin under my arms, but I've been building muscle for a while now. When I don't flex my bicep, the skin is pretty evident, but when I do flex the bicep, its barely noticable.

Hi - Everyone is different and the variables are enormous - including skin elasticity, how long you have carried the extra weight, how old you are, how many times you may have gained and lost weight, pregnancies, genetic make-up, etc. etc. etc. I have seen some people who have lost 100 pounds look great - but then I haven't seen them naked I lost 100 pounds once, and I had skin, but it didn't really bother me because I am not into bikini's!

This time I will lose it, will have the skin, but the only skin I plan to take care of is the extra on my arms. Even when I was thin I had saggy arms so I figure when I lose it all, my reward is to have the new same-day surgery that is not too invasive and which does not keep you in bed - you are back to normal, just not lifting things, the next day!

Don't worry about what might not happen. Do the best you can, exercise and be glad you are getting healthy. Healthy looks great on everyone!

Could you please post a link or something about that surgery you are talking aobut for the arms?... a friend of mine is wanting to have it done, she lost over 100 pounds and has tremendous arm sag.

I hope I won't have it too bad but if I do I think I'd get the surgery too.

I have lost 65 and have not noticed skin sag. My husband made a comment a few months back about how amazed he is that it just popped back into place. I think exercising from the beginning has helped tremendously. I am 31 by the way.

Hi - I actually saw this in Woman's World and of course they do NOT have a website but I did find a link that sort of discusses it here (more medical in tone than the article in ww!) http://www.plasticsurgery.org/news_...Weight-Loss.cfm

I do recall the article quoting $2500 - I've started saving my coins...

A friend of mine, over 40, had a LOT of excess skin removed from stomach, legs and arms. She had a plastic surgeon do it.

Hi there

Don't know what to say, except everybody is different. Youth helps, so does exercise (especially weights, because you fill up a bit of the skin with muscle).

Stay well nourished - fish oil (6+g a day), vitamin E and A, glutamine (15+g a day) all help you heal, and this includes skin damage.

Good luck kiddo.
