Question Please explain unit conversion

Hi,

I spent some time at the University of Toronto bookstore, looking at clinical diagnostic texts for information on blood lipoproteins, and blood test interpretation.

Can someone please explain the units conversion to me?

For example, my overall cholesterol is 5.39, but I notice that people posting numbers here are using units that involve much larger numbers.

An explanation would be most welcome!

Hi Rob,

The Americans use mg/dL as opposed to mmol/L.

Here is a previous thread which explains the conversion formula.

For the first time I went to a Pathology outfit and had a BGL test. They also did a lipid test.

Hi chol! result--6.3 and LDL 4.5

Translation?

(This result and father-in-law's recent cardio ops to unblock plumbing are why I'm on my first ever diet).

HDL and triglycerides are needed for the complete picture.
