Hello all, I'm really glad to have found a busy UK Low Carbing forum, so many of them are pretty much all Americans with a few token Brits.

I'm Elizabeth, I'm 36 and have been overweight since I was a teenager, no conventional diets ever worked and I gave up on them years ago. Excercise had minimal effect, it took me two years going to the gym 3 times a week to lose half a stone, which I quickly gained back. I've been doing Atkins since 22nd November 2003 and so far have lost 30 pounds. I'm feeling really great about myself and the WOE, I find it really easy to stick to and love how much better I feel physically.

I've been browsing the board for a couple of weeks and have already picked up some great tips and advice so I'll be sticking around for more.

Glad to be here!

Oh, and I called myself Gollum because there I was, watching Return of the King, (which I'd been obsessivly waiting for for months) and I almost laughed out loud when Gollum said "and we forgot the taste of bread", immediately thinking, "me too!"

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth

Welcome to this forum. It is a great place to hang out.

You are one of the growing number of members from the NE. Check out Paulie-M's journal. She also comes from Newcastle. Pepsi-Max and RC Fletcher also live near by.

Continued success.

Hi Gollum,

Welcome from a fellow Geordie, I was born and grew up in the North East, though I've lived down south for half my life now. I still think of it as my home and I still support the Toon, hence my name.

Adore your quote from Return of the King, I'd missed that Gollum said that.
I totally love Lord of the Rings and already been to see Return of the King three times. I cannot wait for the extended DVD, which I've heard may run up to 4 hours and which should be out in November.

Well done on the weight loss, thirty pounds is really impressive in suich a short time.

Welcome Gollum and congratulations on the weight already lost. I've found this board invaluable for recipes and information, I'm not so sure I'd have kept going without it and now I'm hooked.

Hi Elizabeth,

Welcome to the forum. You've done really well in such a short time, congratulations . I wish you continuing success.

You'll find lots of tips on the boards. Feel free to drop into my journal any time you fancy a chat. As Anne said, there are a few of us from the north east knocking about on here.

I'm off to work, I'll try to catch you later.

Hello

Welcome to the boards . I've been LCing for a year and a half now with various periods off plan. All in all I'm in it for life though.

I live in Newcastle too. Moved here in September for college. Can you reccomend any local shops or restaurants good for LCing?

Hi, Paulie-M and Scarlet, nice to see fellow Newcastle residents on here.

Scarlet, I havn't really found any shops or restaurants that are that good for low-carbing. I do most of my food shopping at Tesco, mostly getting fresh stuff. I do intend to check out the health food shops in Newcastle though, but I tend to be wary of low carb bars and shakes etc, prefer to stick to "real" food.

Hi Scarlet and Elizabeth,

Scarlet I've left a message in your journal.

My DH and I don't often eat in town as there \re usually too many temptations . We like Indian food, so often go for a chicken tikka at our local Indian restauraant. I hear that Yates are doing a low carb burger. No bread just 10oz of meat and salad. Wetherspoon pubs will allow you to swap chips for salads with their main courses which is a help. They also sell Michelob Ultra low carb lager.

I do most of my shopping in Tesco too. I have bought some of the Carbolite breakfast bars to leave in my locker at work if I get the munchies, but other than that I don't bother much with low carb snacks.

Elizabeth, check out Holland & Barratt in the Bigg Market or the health food shop in Newgate Centre (the name escapes me at present). Why not start a journal and then I can pop in and visit you, it's a good place for people to leave messages for you too.

Thanks, Paulie-M, I've started a journal and a gym log (once I figured out how).

At least I thought I'd started a gym log, but it's vanished into the ether. Oh well, I'll have another go tomrrow.

Hi Gollum,

I live in Norfolk, so not exactly local to Newcastle...

But I am also 36 - yikes 37 this year!!!!...

Have been low-carbing for just over a year now, and still think its the best way to lose weight and then maintain it...

Helen.
