Question Desperate to lose between 15 & 18 lbs by ...

Want to lose by second week in July. That's about 6 weeks. Is it possible? Yes, this will be way of life and will continue but I just want to get back to where I was before I fell off the lc wagon. Should I stick only with induction for all that time? The weight is creeping off the second time around.

I would definatly stick with induction for that time. I know I stuck with induction till I got within 15 lbs of my goal. That was 50 lbs lost on induction.

Also, if you exercise along with it, you could very easily drop it off.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jen! Induction and lots of cardio, after that, then add weight training, to build muscle and burn fat

This is my third time to lose weight on Atkins. It went slower the second time around than it did the first...and it's even slower this time. It may be *possible* for you to lose 15 pounds in 6 weeks...but I wouldn't count on it. Our bodies seem to have a mind of their own and even when we're doing all the right things, they lose at their own pace. It's great to have a goal to work towards...but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't happen in that time frame. Just keep at it and it WILL happen...eventually.

Hi Tricia - I was going to dissent also This is my first time for Atkins and it is slow, slow, slow. I think this is a YMMV thing! If you exercise and if you have never been on Atkins before and if yada yada yada. I am finding, slowly, that I have to shake things up a bit - I was not losing much so decided to low cal low carb - great for a week (-2.5#) - then nothing for three weeks. I decided to just watch carbs and up the fat - great for a week again (-2.5#), then nothing then slowly gained (too many calories I guess). I am back to low cal low carb for the next ten days, then who knows. It keeps things interesting for sure! So, Jopalis - I figure you do your best, exercise, watch what you eat religiously and you just might make it - or you might not - but no harm done either way!

Since you have done this before go back to the basics and make sure you are doing a clean induction. I would avoid any "frankenfoods" as they refer to on the forum.

This is my first time on Atkins and I switched from another plan where I lost 29.5 pounds in six weeks. The first week my body was in shock and I did nothing. The second week I lost one pound. I read everyone's advise and took it seriously.

I upped my calories to 10-15% of my adjusted BMR. I watched the ratio of my calorie consumption and tried to keep it near 70% fat: 25% protein and 5% carb.

I record everything I eat in fitday so I know my calories and my carbs, and
cant delude myself by overeating, or undereating.

I also increased my water intake beyond the recommended . For me the recommended was 64 ounced plus and additional 4 cups for the 100 pounds I have to lose. that makes 12. I upped the water to about 16+.

I also took the fiber recommendation seriuously and added psyllium/flax. I also started the recommended nutrional supplements.

Once I got all this together the weight loss kicked in. I lost 1 pound Sunday,
half a pound yesterday and another half pound today.

I am on day 24 of the program, still on strict induction, and have lost only
5 pounds on Atkins, but two of them were in the last three days. I think the
things I did as per recommendations from the book, and this forum are responsible.

I wish you success in you attempts to get the weight off. Is there an event in July that you have set this deadline?

Karen

You guys are so terrific. I love the input and appreciate it enormously. I know you are all correct in finding what works for me. It is, however, interesting to see what works for others. Also, i think sometimes we do have to shake things up a bit. I am thinking about using my WW tools to keep track of points/calories, trying to stay really low carb and eat healthier fats when I can. I know the fats will add more calories so I will probably up it beyond what it used to be on WW. I think I have learned something from almost all my "attempts". The WW material is just really convenient to use and prevalent. Strictly want to use it to watch my calories/have a guideline. I know that goal date is not the be all end all. But I know how great I started feeling when I lost 20 lbs before. I am so sorry I fell off. Even my mood was better. Ah well hindsite is 20/20-onward and downward!!!!

Karen, the "event" is just that I am going to NY to see my in-laws. When I saw them last I was being strict about the program and they gave me a lot of grief. They didn't see me when I was down 20+. I want to show them that it does work and I look and feel so much better. I'll just work toward my goal and it will happen. They are Italians and really push the bread and pasta. I can do it. Thank you all so much.
