Smile Sugar substitutes while pregnant

Do any of you know which sugar substitutes to avoid while pregnant? Is Spenda ok? I'm not pregnant yet but hope to be at the end of the summer when my weight is down more. I'll ask the doctor , of course. But do any of you have any info on the subject? Thanks in advance.

Have any of you 'moms' been told that Splenda is OK? I did real sugar with my 1st and gained a lot of weight.

Sorry - I do not have an answer - I did not begin to lc until after my daughters were born. I do remember hearing that aspartame should be avoided but Splenda was not around 5 years ago when I had my last baby.

You may want to repost this in the General Low Carb thread.

My doctor said stevia and splenda were okay for pregnancy but after looking up splenda myself and seeing some negative reports I still try to shy away from it when possible. For the most part I try to use fruits for my sweet treats. Occasionally I will use a small amount of splenda but in all honesty I am more likely to grab for honey, molasses, brown rice syrup or dates in VERY small amounts. Of course it's just a personal preference and not a doctor ordered one. I am at 20 weeks and have been staying low carb for this pregnancy. I am actually gaining a little slower than I should so I do allow myself a little bit more carby items (although I pick off the right carb list) than I would if I was seeing the scales leap in major bounds. Best of luck to you!

Jenn
