"rules" differ by Plan (e.g., Atkins warns against aspartame and excessive consumption of xylitol, sorbitol, etc., which are in sugarless gum)... you'd best check two things other than your own plan, of course.
1) the Ingredient List on your gum
2) the Nutrition Facts label on your gum
In Canada, nutrients must be listed to 1/10th of a gram so you might have something to work with.
In the US, nutrients are rounded to the nearest 0.5 gram so a serving size may be zero (calories, carbs, whatever) but you may have actually "inhaled" 4.9 grams carbs in 10 pieces of gum!
Look into it for yourself, get to know this stuff... and maybe search this Forum for your specific favourite gum by name?
