Question Chicken Wings

I'm not very creative when it comes to cooking so, I need a little help here.

This weekend I'd like to have some chicken wings while I watch the race on Sunday...but I know I can't have them breaded so that means I have to either find a place that makes them unbreaded or - ugh - make them myself.

So - how do I make them myself? I can buy a bag of bare naked chicken wings at the grocery store and then what? If I just pour a bottle of hot sauce on them and put them in the oven will that do it or does anyone have a secret recipe that will make them extra special delicious and crispy? I don't like them really hot but I do like them crispy. And what is the best kind of sauce to buy? Are the hot sauces all lo-carb? I've never really looked.

When it comes to cookin'.... I usually eat out! Any help/advice would sure be appreciated! Thanks - Dina

For my wings I just bake my wings until they are done and then toss them in a bowl with some Texas Pete buffalo wing sauce and then bake them a little bit longer after that. If you like them crunchy, you can deep fry them too.

Here is a recipe that I used before I went LC. It's kind of long but it's delicious. I have never made hot wings any other way. You can modify the preparation however you would like, but there are some key ideas here worth reading for any hot wing addict. The anchor bar in Buffalo NY was where the hot wings orignated.

Anchor Bar Hot Wings

Ingredients (12 servings)
Chicken wings

Instructions

The following was originally posted by G.SCHAEFFER GBGM64A.
The key to good Buffalo Wings is how you prepare them as well as the ingredients and
the handling of the wings. The most successful wings served up here in Buffalo are what
they call "Grade A Grinders." Fresh wings that are very large and meaty.
Usually, you cannot get them in a frozen package, but can get them from a poultry
dealer. Once you find them make sure they are absolutely fresh.
Wash them in cold water, split them at the joint and remove the tips.
Place them on a rack on a pan and refrigerate overnight to let the blood and water
drain out of the wings. THIS IS A REAL KEY. Drying the wings under refrigeration
will help to make them a much crispier product, once deep fried.
Next, use a deep fryer or a very heavy deep pot with a thermometer and add the oil.
Peanut oil is very good, or a commercial product
such as can be found at a restaurant cash and carry called Mel Fry.
Heat the oil up SLOWLY,
to 365F, and
depending on the size of the fryer,
deep fry the dry wings
6-8 minutes in small batches,
until thoroughly done and golden brown.
Hold the cooked wings in a warm oven if necessary.
A combination of melted margarine and hot sauce in the ratio of
1 part margarine to 3 parts hot sauce will add the right zing.
The key here is to add just enough sauce to coat the wings -
the more sauce you add, the hotter they will be.
For the very brave, 1 part margarine to 3 parts hot sauce and
1 part Tabasco is referred to as "Suicidal Wings" by the late and dear
Don Bellissimo, who owned the Anchor Bar.
Working quickly, place the deep fried wings in a large bowl and
add the sauce mixture, shaking to coat them.
There are many good hot sauces to use; the one they
use is either Durkee Franks Red Hot Sauce or Wingers Original, again found
in a restaurant cash and carry. Celery sticks and chunky blue cheese dressing
(Ken's Buffalo Style Blue Cheese is a popular one)
and plenty of napkins.

I'm not a cook so I buy the frozen already cooked ones. Couple minutes in the microwave, and they are delicious. 3 wings are 1 carb.

Already been cooked without breading and 1 carb?....there you go! I guess I'll have to search for those. I might try some of the easier recipes one of these days but some of these recipes here are pretty elaborate for me! Of course, I've now found the Master Cook thread so I'm off to become a master cook and will be contributing my own recipes in no time at all! Right S_Hysmith?

Thanks for al the contributions

Default A Couple of Ideas

Roast the chicken wings in the oven until they are browned. They taste delicious just like that.

Walmart Super Centers sell "Hooters" wing sauce in medium and hot levels. It is really good and has no carbs per serving. I' ve not been to Hooters but I imagine if you couldn't find the sauce at Walmart you could get it there. Just a thought. It's really good.

Or, look in the supermarket at the barbecue sauces, and find one that is the yellow, mustard-based kind. They usually have no sugar. Baste the wings with the sauce while they cook. You might find a red sauce with fewer carbs too. I don't know.

Fry the wings, but use soy flour or Keto Crumbs to coat them. I hope these ideas help.

Good Luck!

Have you ever tried garlic wings? Made with butter and garlic. You would have to count the carbs in the garlic cloves but they're excellent. If you're body tends to not take alot of fat too well, want to be careful how many you eat but may take care of that craving.

Default easy hot wings

Go to Wal Mart and buy Franks Red Hot sauce. This is by the original bufflo wing people. recipe is on back of the bottle.

Get those naked wings bake in the oven then toss with Franks RedHot and butter.

My husband loved them! Went to work and told everyone what a great dinner I served. I made homemade blue cheese dressing from Atkins and celery. I just bought another bag of wings.

Hope this helps.

Linda

baking smaking,
I just made wings for the first time last night and good lord they were good.

I deep fried them in olive oil until brown and crispy then mixed half bottle of crystal hot sauce, 1/2 stick butter, 1 tablespoon brown sugar(leave this out if it affects you).

Pulled the wings out of the oil, tossed them in the sauce and chomped down. Best wings I've had in a long time.

I just had some Tyson brand pre-cooked hot wings for dinner on Sunday- they were 1 gm. carb for 3 wings-- I think there was like 9 wings in the box total. TGIFriday's also makes pre-cooked hot wings w/the same carb count. Haven't tried those yet. I'm usually too chicken (excuse the pun) to try to cook something if I know that I can buy it frozen. Call it lazy, or whatever, but if I can have good, LC food in a convenient amount of time w/little effort, then by golly, I'm there!

Default Chinese Chicken Wings

Most sauces/marinades for Chinese chicken wings use honey, so they're probably not too terribly LC.
