Default CKD & Diabetes

Ok, I am thinking of trying CKD to break my 2 month stall. I read the CKD - 101 thread and pretty much understand what to do.

I am going back to Induction next week as well so I guess this weekend is a good time to carb up. However, being a type 2 diabetic I have a pretty good handle on keeping my bg levels between 95 and 105 most of the time.

I realize that I can't go totally crazy during carb up. I do take 1000mg of glucophage each night and my doctor said that I could start ween myself off of them by next month.

I was just wondering if there are any other diabetics doing CKD and if they might have a few pointers to help me stay out of trouble .

I am also looking into the possability that my thyroid may have gone into low gear on me. My waking temp yesterday was 96.7 and today it was 97. I will keep an eye on it for a few days and then check with my doc if it continues to be low.

Thanks fern,

I started carb-up last night for supper. What a sugar rush! I had maybe 200g of carbs and by bedtime I had a headache. This morning the headache was gone and my bg was 118.

Today I plan on high carb low fat. I can use real sugar in my coffee. If my bg gets to high I still have some glucovance left but they drop my bg too low.

I look forward to hearing from Dan. I ordered his book last Monday and am looking forward to getting it soon.

yes, the cat is out of the bag, I am diabetic.

I run a CKD, and do quite well. My advice is to do what you are already planning on.

Personally, I use Humulin-R and it does the trick for me. Keep good tabs on your BG (you know what and when to do it), and above all if it doesn't feel right STOP THE DIET.

Every person is different. I tolerate this diet well, but I do have episodes every now and again. Just play it safe and keep what you need around you at all times.

The Hum-R tends to clear me out too fast sometimes, so I find myself getting hypo and forced to eat (usually drink) more carbs. Beneficial yes, but not the nest way to go about things.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the info. I did pretty well this weekend carbing up. I only had to resort to takinga 1/3 of a Glucovance pill th get my bg down Saturday afternoon. I expected my bg to go really high but my pancreas kept up with the extra carbs pretty well.

I usually don't have to worry about bg getting too low. Even when doing atkins my bg tends to creep up slowly. If I get over 120 for a couple days I take 1/3 of a glucovance pill to get it back down in the 90's.

I had a great workout last night. where I have been struggling to complete 3 sets of most of my routines, I was able to do 4 sets of chest and arm routines with no problems.

I gained 8lbs during carb up weighing in at 218 yesterday morning. This morning I weighed 215.
