Default 8 days of Atkins- didn't loose an ounce

Hi all

I've been on Atkins for 8 days now. Maybe I am expecting too much but I haven't lost an ounce. I was really good too except for one day where I miscalculated by 4 carbs.
I was reading how some other newbies already dropped 10+ lbs in the first week and I haven't lost anything so maybe I am doing something wrong? Or maybe it just takes longer for me?
Any ideas??

Thanks,
Annett

I don't know why you haven't lost anything, but two things to remember. MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE!!! and Fitday.com

I found that I didn't see any difference on the scale for weeks but the tape said different...I had actually lost 6 inches within the induction period.

Also, fitday.com is brilliant and I didn't use it until someone suggested it when I was a few weeks into the diet and very frustrated and it has been an absolute godsend!
It lets you put in all of your daily intake of everything and automatically calculates the totals for fat/carb/callories ect. It's really great.

Also, you must watch your portion sizes, make sure that a cup of whatever is really a cup! I say this because I was a HUGE eater before, my portin sizes were silly really, and when I came onto the diet it took me a while to realise I was eating too much.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what happens!

Also, keep in mind that some people "kick-start" the weight loss slower than others. I didn't lose a bunch of weight right away either, but it steadily started falling off. Keep at it!

What have you been eating - can you post menu's? Were you eating frankenfoods at all (processed meats, lc products)?..all these can have a negative effect. If you can post a menu it will be much easier to offer you a bit of help

Agreed. The more "fake" stuff I ate, the less weight I lost.

Your menu actually looks really good. I would say maybe try to drop the almonds for a week and see if that makes any difference. Nuts do weird things to some people.

Jenn

edit .. Oh the bad breath is supposed to be a good sign that you are in Ketosis.

I think it looks fine too. I'll agree on the nut thing, just to see if it helps. That's probably why they aren't allowed until after induction.

I agree with jadefox26, start using fitday.com. Not so much for carlories, but to see if your getting enough fat and/or too many carbs. Try to keep you fat ratio high to burn off the stored body fat.

I also eat the same things over & over .

Yeah, the breath thing is ketosis, so thats good. . . in a smelly way

Hi,

From your menus it looks like you're not having any protein at lunches. Very important to have some kind of protein. Also, if you have 2 cups of spinach PLUS other vegetable, and then more at supper, you may be having a few too many carbs. Fitday is a great way to track it, as others have suggested.

Do you have enough fats? Don't use just a little mayo (and other fats) - be liberal with it as Atkins suggests and you'll see results! You can cook with olive oil, add butter to veggies, or the scrambled eggs. Avocados are a healthy source of fats and other nutrients. Fitday will also show the percantage of fats you have each day.

WTG on drinking the water!

I think you're close and just need a little bit of tweaking. Good luck!

I agree it looks like you don't have enough fat in your diet - and make sure you limit the salad veggies to your 3 cups a day - if you don't like a lot of heavy meat at lunch, have a chef salad with some ham/turkey etc... - but make sure you have protein with all your meals....otherwise, your menu sounds great!

Hi all

Thank you all! I will try as suggested. I just wish I could find more breakfast/lunch options. I just got the Dr Atkins' New Diet Cookbook, so maybe I'll find some inspiration.
If any of you have more suggestions I would love to hear them!

I agree, nuts are not allowed during induction for a reason...they stall many people (I'm one of them). That's the first thing I would try if I were you. Ditch all the nuts. The second thing is, yes, are you eating too many veggies? You don't necessarily have to use Fitday (although it's a WONDERFUL tool)...just make sure you are not eating any more than 3 cups veggies per day. Eat protein at every meal and eat as much fat as you can...butter, oil, etc. Eat your alotment of cream and sour cream too. Good luck and let us know how you do.

If your green tea isn't decaf, you may be having a LOT of caffeine, which can destabilize your blood sugar.

Not that I'm all that strict about the "avoid caffeine" rule-- I still have my morning coffee. It's just a possible source of trouble.

Your menu looks pretty good (aside from the nuts). Measure yourself!!! I lose only 2 pounds a week, and was disappointed by the slow start, but it's been steady!
