Default acute Diverticulitis

Hi I just need a little advice, 2 weeks ago got very sick with ab pain in lower right quad. Went to the ER They were very concerned until I filled them in on having Diverticulosis over 10 years ago, Then With just a blood test they told me I had a infection and a relapse. The rub is this I have been eating very high fiber since the First attack. The Drs in ER told me to start eating Potatoes, white bread, puddings and a liquid diet to start it off, I don,t want to eat those poisons I am Lcing what to eat? Been living on mint tea and water and I am gaining.

The pain is still there, My own Dr thinks It is Appendix Go for Ultrs sound today
The good thing about the antibiotics all my zits cleared up, Too bad the pain didn't.

Thanks
Diane

Hi Diane,

Yes, I, too suffer occasionally from diverticulitis, the last episode happening only a couple of weeks ago.

I find that the worst of my pain is over after 24 hours if I stick to clear fluids. Then after another day or two, depending on the severity of the pain, I gradually reintroduce some low fat, low fibre foods. I usually start with some chicken breast and tuna. Then if the pain is at reasonable levels, I gradually reintroduce fat and vegies. So far, doing this has not worsened my pain.

And yes, I never lose anything after ingesting virtually no calories for several days. This last time, I gained a couple of pounds.

I suspect your doctor may be right in thinking that there is another cause to your pain. Just because you have diverticulosis doesn't automatically mean that every episode of tummy pain will be caused by the diverticuli. Whatever the cause, I hope they can soon diagnose and treat you.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Rosebud
