I too was eating Taco Bell's Taco Salad w/o shell, w/o beans, during Induction, thinking I was ok.
Then, I bought the book Barbara Kraus' Calories and Carbohydrates. And I quote, "Taco Bell Taco Salad w/salsa, w/o shell 16.5 oz

31 carbs!!!!

with the shell 19 oz and
69 carbs!!!

I've since then have learned a lot about how foods are prepared. There's alot of SUGAR added into the darnest things. As well as the use of hydrogenated fats, flours. Ask your server questions.

31! Wow!

But "Ask your server questions"? At a fast-food joint? I would expect the results of that to be even less satisfying than the food.

BUT...take out the carb count for the BEANS and it is lower than 31 carbs. I would guess the beans at 15-20 carbs by themselves. Here at the house I only have one measley can of black-eyed peas from pre-low carb days and I checked the carb count on them (which should be in the ballpark) and it is 19 carbs (4 fiber) for 1/2 cup.
So this is definately NOT an induction meal unless you save all your carbs for one meal...but doable for other low carbers out of induction.

Okay,

I went to taco bells website and you can customize your meal there.

I selected a taco salad with salsa no beans no shell
This is what it told me.

For a Regular Style Taco Salad w/ Salsa
Cheddar Cheese, Green Onions, Lettuce, Pouch Salsa, Seasoned Ground Beef, Sour Cream, Tomato

Calories: 300
Fat: 19
Saturated fat:10
Cholesterol: 65
Sodium: 1040
Carbs: 17
Fiber: 6
Sugars: 9
Protein: 18

Vitamin A: 30%
Vitamin C: 35%
Calcium: 25%
Iron: 20%

The sugars is probably from the tomatoes, onion, salsa, sour cream and maybe the ground beef seasoning I am guessing

17g - 6 fiber is 11g Net Carbs
A bit high for induction but not horrible and most of the carbs are coming from veggies

I've had a couple of taco salads this week from TB--extra meat, no beans. I've still managed to lose a couple of pounds. I think it's fine in a pinch; it's what saves me when we're on vacation.

I would leave out the salsa, most prepared tomato stuff has lots of sugar to take the bitterness out the the processed tomato. (like catsup) THere are so few onion and diced tomato I woudn't worry about that.

was order soft taco supremes, and just dump them on the plate at home. Here's a link to that. It's 5 carbs per taco innards..

Mr. E is correct about the beans, in rechecking Barbara Kraus' book,
"Calories and Carbohydrates", refried beans can run from 16 to 20 carbs depending upon brand used at 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup serving.

As to talking with servers, I was referring more to a regular restuarant.

I'm glad to know that Taco Bell does have a web site. I never thought about that!
