Default Counting Carbs: Spinach

Just wanted to make sure I'd doing this right...made a recipe with spinach today. The package says 2 carbs, and 2 fibers. Does that really mean spinach counts as 0 carbs? I'm in induction and trying to really make sure I stay below 20 carbs, so I want to make sure I'm not cheating by calling spinach 0 carbs. Thanks!

Hi Betty,

Spinach does have some carbs, so it's a sure bet that the fibre would have already been subtracted.

Still, 2g is a pretty low carb count, so enjoy your spinach!

I double checked with Corinne Netzer's Complete Book of Food Counts and according to this book, 1 cup of frozen spinach has 2 grams of carb and 2 grams of fiber, so I read this as having zero carbs too. It probably has some, but if the carb count per serving is less than 1, they are allowed to label it as zero. Just to be safe, you can count one serving as 1 gram of carb.
Fresh Spinach (1/2 cup chopped) has 1 gram of carb with 0.8 grams of fiber, so it definitely is a low carb hero veggie with lots of things are are very good for you with very few carbs.
