Default August issue of O magazine

The August issue of O is devoted "Weight." The examples of successful dieters are all people who do extensive exercise. On page 144 they state that "The most recent review of more than 100 studies on low carb diets found no difference when compared to high carb diets. Some people don't feel as ravenous on one of the other, but in the end if boils down to the calories: Less is more (fewer calories mean more weight loss)." Another article suggests that no more than 20% of your diet should be protein.

Is Oprah known to be anti low-carb? I was so disappointed with the magazine's insistence than rigorous exercise (running 4-5 miles a day was given as an example) is the righteous way to weight loss. She is the most public example, perhaps, of a yo-yo dieter....why would anyone listen to her dieting advice?

All this is true, generally speaking. The big deal with lower carb is that you CAN eventually eat fewer calories because, duh, you don't feel like you're constantly starving! THe closer you are to goal weight you DO have to count calories on Atkins - believe me I know this from my own experience. Magazines can't jump on the low carb bandwagon because they are trying to serve the mass majority of people (also know as the lowest common denominator ) who have been fed the b.s. for their whole lives - they have products to sell and people to please.

WHATEVER - they all just regurgitate the same old stuff. Magazines, women's mags, I should say, are pure junk and that's why I stay the heck away from them in general! Not good for anyone's self esteem, IMO.

Well, I do think the exercise part is what most folks leave out and it is important. We are an inactive society and every generation gets worse. It is easier to control yourself with food if you know what it takes to work off a pound! I personally think running sucks and have always hated it. I think it is dumb and very limiting to suggest that is even an option for most people.

My thoughts exactly! She is a celebrity with a forum - that is all she is.

You know the truth! Hang in there!
