Default Can I make chowder with turnips?

I've recently discovered the joys of turnips, thanks to the beautiful Zuppa Toscana recipe in the Soups forum. So now turnips are the new potato, AFAIC. Even hubby loves them, so I want to expand my horizons with this lovely veggie.

Can anyone offer suggestions on how to make chowder with turnips? Is it just a simple matter of using them instead of potatoes in a regular chowder recipe, or are there other alterations that would have to be made. I'm thinking I'll need to thicken it a bit because there wouldn't be potato starch.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to turnips (and love them!).

TIA!

Sure you can.

For thickening, you can use a bit of xanthan gum or make a thin cauliflower soup and use it as the base for making chowder, just as you would use stock or water for making a soup.

I saw a clam chowder recipe on the Martha Stewart show on foodnetwork. Course they used potatoes, but I diced up some turnips, roasted them then substituted them for the potatoes. DH,SOL loved it even tho they aren't big turnip fans. I think the roasting mellows them out. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I've used turnips a few ways now, and they just keep getting better!
