If it's anything like the plan he outlined in his Body for Life book, I'm not interested.

Love his weight-training regimen, hate his nutritional advice. His favorite food is a baked potato? Not for me!

I saw the show, he said that low carb diets are horrible for your health and cause memory loss, loss of energy that inhibits your ability to be active, etc... Overall, seemed very narrow minded and only interested in promoting yet another diet book.

To each his own.. I'm following his nutrition advice and I love it. I low carbed for a few years and it just caused me horrible cravings. On the other hand LC works great for many people.

BFL-style nutrition isn't too different from Zone or Atkins maintenance. (Even Atkins says a potato or two a week would be ok on maintenance.) It stresses whole foods and avoidance of processed crap. Even whole wheat bread is only very reluctantly 'authorized' because he knows Americans aren't bloody likely to give up bread.

His ratios break down to 40-45% protein, 35-40% carbs and 20-25% fat. Nutritional stats for the Eating for Life book are available on the website if you enter a password which indicates you've bought the book.

It's not traditional LC, but it's a far cry from the standard American diet, and it does work for many, many people, especially those who need a few extra carbs for strenuous lifting regimens. For me, it's one more tool in the ol' tool belt.

Cheers,

Friday

Yup, I agree that BFL is not too far off from Atkin's maintenence. Another thing it says in Atkin's book is that Athletes should be consuming up to 90 grams of carbs a day. At those levels it wouldn't be a far cry from BFL.

I also agree that Bill does slag Low-carbing really harshly. I believe he is sincere in his beliefs, but it's too bad that he's so harsh about. It's obviously alienating a lot of people. Especially since it is so easy for low-carbers to make a few modifications to BFL and have the best of both worlds.

Still liking Bill, even if he does slag low-carbing,
Arnie

I really like Bill because he is so sincere in wanting to help people. He honestly believes in his heart that low carb is not the healthiest way to go so he wants to tell people. Unfortunately there is not a one-size-fits-all way to be healthy. oh well. Bless his heart anyway..
