Default Struggling with veggies...

OK, I am not struggling with eating ENOUGH veggies on this plan;

I am struggling with eating too MANY! I want more, more, more!

3c salad or 2c salad and one cup other is not enough for me!!!

I easily eat 3c each at lunch and dinner; lunch usually has tuna on top, and dinner is with my meat and "other" veggie!

Has anyone ever eaten MORE than what Dr. Atkins recommends? How does it affect your loss?

I cannot see how eating more carbs in the form of legal healthy veggies could hinder your losses. If you're craving more then go for it, is my advice.

I can't say I have this problem (the only way I can choke down enough veggies is if I smother them in butter or ranch dressing) but I'd say that since veggies are so good for you, you'd be OK going a little over your carb count on them. Salad vegetables especially are really low-carb, so 6 cups of lettuce might only be 6-8 carbs.

Are you past Induction? If so, this isn't a problem —~I say eat the low-carb veggies to your heart's content and just keep an eye on your other carbs. Maybe limit non-veggie carbs to 10 per day, then eat as many veggies as you want. I've heard of people doing this and losing just fine. All those nutrients can't be bad for you!

Hi there!

I have also found that the 3C. recommended is also too little, and eating that little amount of veggies I would probably have extra carbs each day!

Since after the first week I started I also eat much more than 3C. of veggies each day. I don't think it has affected me any way except positively. have lost pretty consistently and have not had an official stall yet.

Anyways I did not get this way eating way too much veggies!!!

BTW, you can subtract the fiber from your carbs, if you're not doing so already. It allows you to have more of them, especially if you're talking green veggies (which are high in fiber). Your count is closer to 30-35g a day, with 10-15g of fiber subtracted.

Yes I do eat more salad then recommended. I don't eat hardly any other veggies though. I don't count how much salad I eat but if it goes over 3 cups I don't worry about it. I don't eat a ton of stuff all day though so it hasn't hurt me. I get those prepackaged salad bags with romaine lettuce. Then I add cherry tomatoes, diced ham, shredded cheese, bacon bits and Marie Callendar blue cheese dressing. It is one of my favorite things to eat. I may eat 3 of these salads a day and I have steadily lost at least 2-3 lbs a week but I will say I count carbs on everything else religiously and I personally try to get as close to zero carbs as possible. Everything I eat has zero carbs or no more than 2-3 carbs so I would say that I probably never hit 20 carbs a day or if I do right on the nose even with extra salad.

Armywife, are you aware that foods like cream, cheese, eggs and coffee all contain carbs, even though packaging may read "0"?

Also, you might be interested in knowing that even Dr. A suggests getting the 20g a day recommended. He studied eating less and found it had little impact on fat loss and in some cases it can backfire as it leads to monotony and boredom. More variety makes it less likely you feel deprived and less likely you'll stray.

Question maybe you body needs more veggies

2moosmom -

Are you currently on Induction? Are you within the 20 grams of carbs per day?

Craving more may be a signal from you body that it is needing more nutriants. Taking a multivitiaman is a really good idea. Drinking lots of water always also!

Look to the back of Atkins book and really calculate the digestable carbs you are having. You may be lower than 20g. I think Atkins generalized the 3 cups of salad, as a fast start guideline helping new Low-carbers get started.
