Default Drink Cravings

This isn't really a question really just an observation. Everyone says when you first start this diet that you crave carbs really bad for a couple of days. I found that I didn't crave carbs at all, nor sweets. Even if I tried... thinking about pizza or hamburgers or kentucky fried chicken biscuits mmmmm oh god I loved those biscutes But even when I think of them I didn't crave them.
Now for the kicker....I have always been a moderate social drinker and only on rare occasions actually craved a drink but it was never a big pleasure of mine. You know kind of like on a hot day after working on the yard a cold beer really hits the spot but most of the time you wouldn't bother... But since Ive been on LC all I want to do is drink. Its like Im all of a sudden an alchoholic and want to drink ALL the time. And not just a beer but liquor like vodka and burbon and fancy drinks like black russians and banana deluxes (banan, kahluah, bailys and cream)

My freinds say its the sugar I want and maybe they are right but why wouldn't I want a hershys bar or donut, why must it be alcohol I crave??? And will it go away?

Hi Afox.

I don't know about your cravings for hard liquor but I am known for my savoury taste. I barely eat sweet stuff at all. It's never really bothered me. I could walk past the cake shop but crave a sausage roll!

Since starting Atkins I too have had no cravings what-so-ever for carbs...but I want something sweet sooooo bad!!!

Maybe your friends are right. Maybe it is just the sugar you need? I don't know, I'm certainly no expert, but I think this diet definitely does strange things to your body...In a good way, don't get me wrong, but the adjustment period is strange. I think it takes a lot of getting used to.

Don't worry. I'm sure it'll work out fine...so long as you don't give in to your craving too often!

Hello Afox,

I have had some sweet cravings too! I do drink a Diet Rite at lunch time and in the evening brewed decaf iced tea sweetened with Splendid. I made some sugar free jello that helps too.

Your body thinks it wants the carbs... It seems we have no control over HOW it wants to get them! Personally, I really detest oreo cookies.. and WHAT do you suppose I wanted during induction??? It's like when I was pregnant and NEEDED olives, and I HATED them too! It wasn't just the salt, I specifically needed olives.<shrug> I've liked them ever since. (of course, not washed down with orange juice like when I was pg..)
