Default Lower iron than usual

Has anybody else had this problem? I went to try and give blood today and was turned down. My hematocrit was only a point under the requirement, and the Red Cross's requirement is pretty high for obvious reasons, but still -- I've never had that happen before. I know this diet tends to leach potassium and magnesium, but iron? With all the *meat* I eat? And the leafy greens? Any thoughts?

Weirded out and planning on supplements,
Holly

I had this happen once before (it was before starting Atkins) and mine was because I was having heavy TOMs. I started iron supplements and was fine the next time I went to donate. This diet usually gives you enough iron but not always so you probably do need to add a supplement at least for awhile. Congrats on your success so far!

You may want to go see your Dr. other things can cause low iron, Like Lori says, TOM is a great one for that but, you are abit young for that to be an issue (as in peri menopause).
Have it checked 8>)
