scared the fat off of me
Someone on another board suggested I should tell my story....so here it is.
I've never been very heavy (5'4" 148 lbs) I was simply like so many people, always wishing off 20 or 30 lbs. Anyway, my "slightly" heavy husband came home from the doctor to tell me he had diabetes. This trigered something in me. Both my parents died from complications of diabetes. I have always been afraid I would get it. My husband was told he could control it without medication, simply by diet. The Atkins diet. Out went the old way of eating what we loved so much, potatos, rice, corn etc. The worst was giving up pasta. In went eating a lot of meat (liked that!) green veggies (didn't like that so much). Along the way he tested my blood suger (150!!) In short,it scared the fat off of me. To this day I'm not sure what happened but in 6 months I went from 148lbs to 109lbs. The entire time I never really looked at the scale. I'm sure the excerise helped accelerate this. I don't drive and would walk a mile and 1/2 each way to work. Weekends I walked to the grocery store. Something odd happened....my body began to burn fat 24 hrs a day. I am not a young chickie in my 20's, so being thin in fact did not look so good on me. Both my husbalnd and family became alarmed at my weight loss. I'm not kidding, but I began to look like Calista Flockhart wanna be. In order to gain some, I went back to eating some white veggies, pasta and Ensure plus. That helped, I'm now 114lbs and have been for over two years now.
As for my husband, the diabetes is gone. It will never be gone for good of course, to this day he will not touch any white veggies or pasta. His blood suger is normal and he is 28lbs lighter. I have gone back to eating my love, pasta once a week or so.
