I also live with my parents. When I first started Atkins, I cooked two chickens and plenty of salmon slices to last me a few days. My parents "helped" me eat it all up the first day - along with their other food. And so it continued. So now I just plan ahead and make triple the amount. But it sure is annoying, and can make me almost give up my diet when there's no legal food around for me.

Hi everyone, I love this post!

In my house, I do all the shopping and cooking (husband does the washing up 50% of the time). You want biscuits? Too bad, so sad, I ain't buying 'em.

He has now become a low carber by default, and looks forward to my new LC creations. He'd better, or he doesn't eat!

Good luck

Noni C

HI
I have stopped trying to hide my low carb shakes from my
11 year old grandaughter, she is a gymnast, lean and solid.
so i figure the xtra protein won't hurt her. Although my
daughterinlaw asked me where i keep my choc allmond bars,
yesterday. Well, i cannot tell a lie, so they will start to disapear
a lot faster now. She also eats high carb desserts, etc.

I see both sides to this coin. When I was growing up in a household of 6, I was the youngest and got last dibs on food. My brothers ate like they were eating their last meal and no consideration for anyone else.

Hide the goodies if you can and the stuff in the frig is probably better for them to have but stress they must leave something behind - no hogging it all!!!

My SO used to LOVE the self-rise pepperoni pizza I would get but the last time I made it for him, I pulled out the roast from the previous night for myself and some fresh spinach and he was *crying* to have my meal instead of his. His brother stopped by and he pushed the pizza off on him (ironic). I am happy to see him eating healthier - he is eating about 1/2 the carbs he was and he is a thin guy but hasn't lost anything because he is displacing the carbs with more protein and fat. He is one of the lucky ones - fast metabolism and excellent body relationship with his head - he eats and craves what his body TRULY needs.

I know the idea that high fat AND high carb combined aren't good for them but what is likely happening (we can hope) is that they are displacing some of their previous carb intake for your protein/fat/vegie foods.

Expensive foods? I think feeding the family meats and vegies instead of empty carbs which will most assuredly lead to health problems later in life, is a much better investment!!! Now, for the expensive sweets and treats - this is true so HIDE THEM ALREADY!
