hi newguy and welcome. i think you should start weight training as soon as you can. i think everyone should weight train. i really think it's the "fountain of youth". i love walking too. i have a dog, homer, who insists we walk. he sets a very quick pace too!
are you eating breakfast. breakfast is really the most important meal of the day, esp. to a dieter. it revs your metabolism up in the morning. if you don't have a lot of time for brekkie, make a batch of hardboiled eggs. you can eat them in the car. have some salad w/your lunch and dinner. just count the carbs and keep them under 20. remember this is lowcarb, not no-carb!

I'm planning to buy some small weights friday to start building some muscle in my arm. I'm going for very high reps and low weight, so i can build a bit more muscle, burn calories, and continue building calories throughout every day!

Talking hi there, C.C.A. - aka Ironlung aka Nice Guy

I'm "thinking" about doing something similar. I have fibromyalgia, so I have to be careful with the weight-training/isometric work that focuses the workout on one specific muscle as opposed to a large muscle group (high risk of micro-tissue tearing and injury) ... but recent research shows that a slow, gradual approach, with lower weights and using the increased reps, as you describe ... may be of real benefit, not just for fitness and wt. loss, but in my case for relieving pain. My other option is resistance work, such as what debbiedobson is doing. Right now I'm walking ... and have increased the pace, so I'm doing the same route in less time.

Good luck to you, and keep us posted. I'm really interested how things go for you!

Doreen
