I have been a lcer for over a year. Probably, the reason Dr. A says to reduce the fats in the AFL book is, as you increase your carbs, you should reduce your fats. If your insulin level is balanced, glucagon should wisk away excess fats and cholesterol. That is why this diet tends to lower triglycerides and balances cholesterol. Before changing your fats see if your carb intake could stand a little tweaking. I consume butter and olive oil in my cooking. I want to start using peanut oil as well. I have not lowered my fats since beginning this diet and my blood work is well whithin the normal range.

If you visit the cholesterol and heart disease forum there is a post from a lcer who lowered his/her cholesterol by upping the fat intake. You can find the post here:

I am always amazed at how great the people on this forum are! You are right...I need to get over my fear of eating fat. I am glad i posted this thread because you have all helped me with that and I have been rereading Atkin's for Life. I am increasing my fat intake and I am going to buy some fresh bacon, without the nitrates and free range poultry and beef. Hope you're doing great, Jacova! You said you had just begun this woe. I loved the Atkins interview last night on Larry king!!
