I have to agree with usedtobero. Millions of people have lost weight on Low-fat diets and have kept it off. The problem is that many people just CANT (not just won't, but can't) stick to it. Low-fat requires an incredible amount of will power to ignore those beginning hunger pains. I wouldn't say that either one is healthier or works better than the other. It just has to be what works well for the individual.

After a while of not getting satisfied, the body will shut off the hungry signal. After all it isn't doing any good and it's better to put the energy it was using to other more important needs.

Most diets can work if they are done properly and can be stuck with for life. In WW you can choose to use your points having a ton of point free veggies to fill you up, or one slice of cake. Same with the Zone or other LC WOE, you can choose to get your daily allotment of carbs from 2 cups of salad and 2 of broccoli, or you can have 1/2 a slice of bread. Budgeting smartly is the key to most WOE. With Atkins and other low carb diets you get to eat more calorie wise, and have a wider selection of foods, making it easier to stick to for some. One down side is low fat convinence food is readily available and eating LC can be difficult, though it is becoming more widly accepted and new products are coming out.

Any WOE you choose must be something you can stick to. For some LF is easier, and for others LC is. Hitting goal weight and going back to junk food and overly processed convinence foods will cause you to gain it all back regardless.

For some of us this WOE is the only way. For others this wont work. If you're advising someone, one of those carb addiction tests is a good place to start.

Thank goodness I found this program.
