Default Charlaine's Journey to a Fit Body (Buckle up!)

Hi there,

Welcome to my journey.

I've just joined the Y today. I plan to visit 3 to 4 times a week. I plan to swim, do some cardio work (maybe the stationary bike thing), and do some yoga and/or Pilates.

I also bike and yoga twice a week (perhaps that will change with my new membership at the Y) and walk with my dog.

I want to find out what my body fat index is and... reduce it!

I'll let you know how it goes!

Charlaine

Good luck Charlaine. Since you'll be a the Y anyway, you might consider tossing in some resistance work in there before the cardio - it REALLY helps speed things up.

This is a great board. You'll love it here.

Before the cardio work? How does that work?

Well, go to the first page of my journal. There's a link on the bottom of that first page.

If that isn't enough, drop a note in my journal and I'll get back to you.

But trust me, the other way REALLY doesn't work as well. And the workout you get when you try cardio first really bites.

Cool, I'll try that.

Doesn't matter to me anyways what order I do them in, as long as they get done!

Thanks for the tip!

Hey Charlaine..

Saw a new gym log and just thought I'd drop by to say hello!

Good luck on your workout. The Y is a good place for that. I'm sure you'll have fun there, and hope you do here too.

See ya out on the boards!

And cheers!

I went to another location than the one I registered at. It is huge! Right near Concordia U (If you know Montreal). On 6 floors or something. I actually got lost! They just reopened a few months ago. It's all nice and modern!

I attended a yoga class. Not the too-nice-too- low kind. We really worked. She called the positions like she was singing, using the actual real names of the ashtas (I think). It was truly amazing. I really got into it without being bored, like I have found myself to be when things get too too too lengthy in time.

I forgot how much it sucks to have a belly in the way though. And no abs. I need to work on that. And then... I was honestly too tired to do anything else.

More either tomorrow or Sunday. She does give a 90-minute class on Sunday... hmmm....

Lazy day with my beloved.

Did manage to get to the Y. The deal was that we'd drive into town, I'd swim for awhile while he would wander around downtown (especially at magazine stores). It was great. Very quiet: only 5 or 6 people. The lifeguard was amazing. He told me about the corridor etiquette and where everything was. I swam for 15 minutes.

What do you mean *only* 15 minutes? They were very well used 15 minutes! I almost didn't stop and when I did, I did some stretching. Don't forget this is my first time swimming in approximately 6 months. I want to be in shape but this is a journey! Next time, it will be 20 minutes I hope.

I also took my dog out for a rapid-paced walk. It's usually a quick pee-poo and then we go back inside. This time, we went to the park. He was glad to get the exercise and well, I was walking all the way through. *He* had to keep up with *me*!!

See attached for a picture of Gandalf, the Great, on "Stay".

So for today, that's 15 minutes swimming + 15 minutes walking.

More to come tomorrow I hope!

Managed to get to the Y on time tonight so that I could train. So, to start, I did 5 minutes of Stairmaster, the leg induction machine 2x15 (man, so much testosterone in there. It was really creepy to hear these men moan and groan as I was the only woman in there. Perhaps I'll get used to it.) and then did 10 minutes on a really cool threadmill that adjusts your workout according to your heart rate.

And then I went home. That was enough for me today. I'm going to have an evaluation with a trainer soon so perhaps she can help me figure a routine out for myself. And I'll gradually raise my difficulty level.

T'was great. I feel complete. Just like right after I... never mind.

See ya tomorrow!

emm... yeah... gym log...

OK, I didn't go...

Leaving for the weekend... I'll go Monday morning. Don't have a choice about being in town early anyway. Yes, firmly, Monday morning.

There.
