Default Disappointed...

Well, I was soo excited today! I made a trip to Marshall's and found Davinci's Sugar free French Vanilla and Chocolate syrups. I also went to Wegman's and found Sorbee's Sugar free chocolate sauce, strawberry syrup, and picked up some brown sugar twin.

To my dismay, none of them tasted good! Granted I only tried each plain, on a spoon. The Davinci chocolate syrup was fairly tasteless. The vanilla showed some promise. The sorbee chocolate sauce was bad! Very alcoholy and not too much chocolate flavor, however it was extremely thick. The strawberry was also alcoholy, but not as much. I tried the brown sugar twin, straight out of the box, of course. It was also gross.

So, I'm searching for some advice. How do you use these products. I'm hoping to make some use out of the good finds! I like to add things to yogurt and cottage cheese, so maybe I'll try that. Any other suggestions? I really like to keep things low calorie, as well and low sugar/carb. I want to do something to satisfy my cravings for chocolate ice cream and hot fudge! I don't have an ice cream maker, and again, I don't like lots of calories! What do you think? Thanks for any help!

Hello!

I can't get Davinci syrups here in Canada , so I can't help much, but when I have a fancy new ingredient and I need some ideas on what to do with it, here's what I do: go to the search page (the " <img src="http://forum.lowcarber.org/images/top_search.gif"> " icon near the top of the page), search for "Davinci" (or whatever keyword you choose), and limit the search to "The Kitchen" forums. It'll give you every recipe that anyone has posted containing that ingredient!

HTH!

Hmm... I tried searching the recipe forum, no luck. There are posts, but it's not what I'm looking for. I don't really need anything complicated, just some simple ideas for every day use.

I eat a lot of plain yogurt (GO diet encourages it...) so I was also racking my brains trying to figure out how to make it peppier. I came up with the following two options (hopefully they will work for you):

Adding vanilla extract and Splenda (I've found 3 tsps of the loose powder Splenda, not packets, is more than enough and I believe it's only 1 carb) for a natural vanilla taste.

Adding sugar free maple syrup. I recently discovered Maple Grove Farms/Cozy Cottage (it goes under both names) has one they make with Splenda and it's awsome. Very natural tasting (to me at least) although pretty wattery. I think it's 1 carb per tablespoon. I got it at Albertsons so I think it's readily available. I like my yogurt/cottage cheese sweet, so I add more Splenda on top of it, but usually just a teaspoon. The syrup does have a nice maple flavor.

Hope that helps!

Tam

I have experimented with the Maple syrup in cottage cheese. It's pretty good. Ughh... just tasted the Sorbee syrup again. It has got to be the most fake tasting product ever! I wonder, has anyone else had this stuff? What did you think of it?

I think the syrups are great!! I use the vanilla/caramel in my coffee, instead of sweetener, and use a tiny bit of vanilla to sweeten whipped cream. I also use chocolate/raspberry or banana to flavour protein shakes... or you can use them in yogurts or cheesecakes... You really aren't limited - you can use them pretty much for anything that requires sweetners, you just have to make sure that you adjust the liquid count in the recipes

I mix syrup into my Keto Oatmeal. I like to have yogurt with Chocolate whey powder mixed in and then add some strawberry DaVinci to that. Sometimes I put syrup on top of a mock danish . My DH likes to use them to make Italian Sodas. There's a recipe for Flax Muffins that I like and it calls for Vanilla DaVinci.

I use the Davinci Vanilla in Diet Rite cola for a 'Vanilla Coke' taste and I use it in the decaf coffee that I treat myself to every now and then.

I also use the Davinci Raspberry in decaf iced tea for a nice, refreshing raspberry iced tea.

There's always the thought of making sno-cones w/the Davinci syrups, too.

HTH-
Nikki
