Angry Watch out for McDonalds salads!

I thought one of those new McDonalds salads would be an okay lunch (with grilled chicken) during my induction. I looked at the website of mcdonalds and it says that a bacon/ranch salad with grilled chicken contains 11 carbs of which 4 are sugars (I guess there are sugars in the chicken coating?) Even if you don't eat the carrot shavings, be careful of ordering one of these salads especially if you are induction. The Newman's salad ranch salad dressing also contains 4 carbs with 3 grams of sugar!

And I thought I found an quick lunch.

Well, you can deduct the 3g of fiber, making it 8 ECC. I find that Wendy's BLT salad is a much better bargain at 10g with 4g of fiber. (6 ECC)

But again the dressings are a problem. Keep your own in a work fridge, perhaps. Or try Wendy's Caesar which only has 1g per pakcet.

Problem with the dressing packets is that they are fairly large - equivelent to 1/4 cup or so - - I personally never use that much dressing on my salads. Normal dressing has about 1-2 carbs per 2 tbls so the Newmans is right on target. Yes, sugar is a problem but depending on where it is listed on ingredient packet would make me decide whether to eat it or not (lower on the list, less)

I personally eat Wendy's salads and less the croutons and choosing Caesar dressing keeps me legal and did not pose a problem with weight loss in the past.

And a little shredded carrots won't make such an impact....but yes, NOT on induction.

I also eat the wendy;s BLT salad, I don't add the croutons, take the tomatoes off (I like them, just not enough for the carbs!) and I get the blue cheese dressing.

I will have to try the Wendy's salad sometimes since it looks like their dressings are better and the carb counts are lower.

I guess the McDonalds salads would be better than some other fast food choices but I think I will stay away from them until after induction since even 8 grams seems like a lot for just one meal.

Instead of putting the dressing on the salad, try dipping your fork into the dressing before you stab some salad. Same taste but a lot less dressing.

So basically I'm safer with my olive oil and juice form 1/2 lemon instead of dressing?

I keep ranch dressing at work.. I eat McD's salads all the time, it hasn't interfered with my weightloss. The only dressing they sell at the one I go to is "lite" dressing.... crazy! We should have a choice.

I also make my own dressing for salads... red wine vinegar, olive oil, and some seasoning (I buy the dry packet kind that contains about 2 carbs for the entire packet.. it's made for cold pasta salad, but tastes great in regular salad!)

lemon juice is higher in carbs. Red wine vinegar has zero carbs.

I usually order the side salad from McD's and get the Newman's Ranch. Then I'll grab a Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder and pitch all the bad stuff. Pretty satisfying.

Part of the carb count on that salad includes carrots and the tomatoes that are included...

Default YUM!

I guess it is all in perspective. I LOVE the McD's grilled chicken california cobb salad with caesar dressing. To me, 8 carbs plus about 2 for the dressing (I don't use that much) is a great bargain for how full I am after eating that salad. Funny, I don't like the Wendy's salads, because the gray chicken kinda freaks me out...

However, I would say yes, probably not suitable for induction, but since I consume approx. 40 carbs/day and am still losing, I think this salad is a LCer's dream find. Check out my journal...I eat them ALL the time!

Amy

Split the salads in half. Then you get a two for one deal. I found that Wendy's salads are WAY too big and are more like 3-4 cups of salad.
Splitting the salad means splitting the carbs as well.

Lightbulb salad dressing

Hi, i have been making my own salad dressing from a low carb recipe,

I use 3cups of olive oil

One cup of red vinegar (or regular)

Salt (to taste)

Pepper (to taste)

you could put some garlic powder with it too, or maybe some parmesan cheese??(though i havent tried that.)

It actually tastes very good.

I put mine in a squirt bottle so it is easier to use everytime
