Talking Goin' fishin' with my Dad tomorrow...

Well.. my dad invited me to go on a sturgeon day trip with him. Im kinda nervous.. gonna be around a lot of guy friends that might give me some sh*t about being on this diet.

The packing list:

-Atkins Bar
-Atkins PB Cups
-(4) Bottled Water
-(2) Diet Rites
-Almonds
-6 pack Michaelob Ultra

I dont plan on drinking/eating it all but I guess its a good idea to have a variety while stuck on a boat for a day.

I hope I dont cave to any of the carbojunk my dad is bringing.

You should just bring along a whole tonne of beef jerky. Or cold chicken wings - and beer. That is a good fishing trip treat. I would think that most guys would dig this diet - i would be way more prone to make fun of you if you whipped out the cottage cheese and lettuce leaf and weighed it on a diet scale

Hmmmm... Give you what? LOL!

I wouldn't worry a whole lot about that. There isn't too much that hunters can say to you about a protein based diet.

I guess they are all fit as a fiddle? My guess is that even if they are, you can eat like that and not have to worry too much about it. After all, this is the way that ALL fisherman and hunters used to eat.

Good luck and catch one of those prehistoric looking critters for me!

Gotta have a SLIMJIM! Definately a male based snack!

You can also get "Just the Cheese" snacks. All it is is baked cheese to a crisp. I find them at my local health food store. Very hearty and salty.

I make my own cheese snacks. I oil a cookie sheet and put on shredded cheddar. I cover the cheese with some Italian seasoning and garlic powder. I put it in the over a few mintues until bubbily and slightly crispy. Then I remove it with a metal spatula. It gets even crispier when it cools. WARNING: Do not add salt. It is amazing how salty cheddar taste when you cook it this way.

Hope these ideas help!

being along a bbq and eat up that sturg!!!

actually, i usually bring jerkey, nuts, a piece of fruit, cheese, celery, and peanutbutter, pepperoni, chicken&salad stuff, smoked salmon.....

my fishin buddy brings vienna sausages, pork rinds, and protein bars. (i like a little more variety in my diet)

good luck on the gator fishin', are you in oregon? your buddies will probably not tease you so much if you leave the sissy sugar free chocolate and fakey food bar at home and instead bring along the manly jerkey and pork rinds..hehehe

p.s. acipenser transmontanus=white sturgeon

WHERE'S THE FOOD???!!!

I don't know about you, but the fishing trips I have been on lasted a-l-l d-a-y. I would starve with only an Atkins bar and almonds! And PB cups with beer? BLECH!! PLEASE....take along some of the suggestions in the previous posts. Otherwise you may have a hard time resisting temptation.

Welp.. I made it...

I ate the Atkins bar for b-fast, before the guys could see my sissy food.

The almonds.. snacked on them all day.. little by little. Id have a beer ocassionaly with the almonds, nice treat lemme tell ya.

Drank a lot of water... and my pops packed turkey with cheese sandwiches so I ate a couple of those, minus the bread of course.

Only thing is the only thing I caught today was a buzz and a sun tan.... guess thats not so bad... my dad caught a 80+lb Sturgeon. He had the biggest keeper of the day, his friend caught a bigger one but we had to put it back. Couple other guys caught a few 50lbers.

Anyways.. I was good.. stuck to my diet. Probably didnt go over 30 carbs today, even with the beer. I even explained that I was on a diet to a couple of the guys that questioned me about the Michaelob Ultra, they were surprisingly cool about it.

Few pics..

Look at me... Im looking thin again after 4-5 months on Atkins!!

My Dads catch, 72 inches, the EXACT limit for Sturgeon, any bigger ya gotta throw em' back.

My Dad and todays prize catch, I scored a good amount of fish to cook up!!!

WOW that is a HUGE fish!!! I don't think I have ever seen a fish that was so big! Congrats on sticking to your diet. I went camping this weekend and was worried that I would cheat, esp when the marshmellows came out but I was good! YAY.
