Default Atkins Triva!

I thought this would be a good time to begin Atkins triva. THis will allow us to learn more about our friend and mentor:

1) What does the "C" stand for in Dr. Robert C. Atkins?

Right, NOT carbohydrate.

Very good wcollier!

Here is an easier one to find:

2) What day/year was Dr Atkins born and in what city?

3) How many books as Dr. Atkins published?

4) How many books as he sold?

Hi all,

Well, Talon, he sold one bazillion books over about a 30 year period, and the medical establishment and food industry says, "Well, you can't prove that 'cause no studies have been done."

Very good! Now that we have established a few facts about Dr. Atkins, let me just add that he was a cardiologist by trade - he graduated Cornell University medical school in 1955 , and after his residency in New Yorks's St Lukes hospitals, he started a private practice in 1960.

My point is : He was a practicing medical doctor for more than 40 years. A heart doctor. And being a heart doctor - he should understand what is good for our artiries and what isn't from first hand experience.

Next Trivia:

Hint: According to DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) there are 12 main rules to the induction phase.

5) What is the maximum time frame you should go without eating?

6) During the first two weeks, is it OK to eat something that is not on the acceptable food list?

7) During the first two weeks, what should my portion sizes be?

8) How much (if any) vegatbles should be consumed daily during the first two weeks?

5) 6 hours
6) Let me think.....no
7) enough to fill you hunger, but not enough to stuff yourself!
8) 3 cups salad, or 2 cups salad and 1 cup acceptable veggie.

Very good MaryToU! Only one thing I will add to number 7) If you aren't hungry and its been 6 hours since you last ate - be sure to eat at least a small low carb snack.

9) Getting into lipolysis (ketosis) is based upon the ?????? to carbohydrate levels in your daily food intake.

10) Low carb eating is naturally diuretic (don't retain water). What 3 minerals does Dr Atkins recommend taking? These minerals also help with night time leg cramps.

11) How many calories are you allowed during induction?

I study traditional chinese medicine and acupuncture. Some doctors say you can't prove the efficacy of acupuncture because 'no studies have been done'. Nontheless, acupuncture has been practiced successfully for over 3000 years. I've seen acupuncture work and I've seen Atkins work.

You don't count calories, you just stop eating when you are full.

Peace

red1cutie, Right-o!

One thing to add to #10: if you have high blood pressure, check with your doctor before taking extra potassium.

12) What is the shortest and logest amount of time you should be on the induction phase?

13) What is the best range to be in on your ketosis test strips? Light, Moderate, Heavy?

14) In his book, Dr Atkins recommends how many 8 ounce glasses of water a day minimum?

12) Induction should be done for at least two weeks. After that, you may wish to stay on Induction for six months or longer. You should move on to OWL eventually to: avoid dependence on a "crash diet" mentality, when you're close to goal, or for more variety.

13) They're all fine! Atkins specifically says, "Don't worry about the exact level of ketosis indicated by the strip." Here are some other helpful quotes: "Remember, the strips are tools; making them change color is not the sole object of the game" and "You don't necessarily need to use the strips at all."

14) At LEAST 8 glasses a day!
