I believe itmeans No Further Statement.

ie: You pick beef, NFS

Rather than beef, ground, extra lean

Just means you are not making a detailed statement as to the cooking, type, etc.

Yeah, we'v gone over this question before - no definitive answer, as I recall. Seems to be me to stand for Not For Sure - like if you buy something out, it's like generic ingredient instead of being so crazy specific (skinless, boneless, boiled in filtered water, salt added, served in greeen bowl....yada, yada, yada). Ok, I WAS only kidding about not for sure. And the green bowl.

Default I found this definition

in a past post by Doreen, one of the very knowledgeable Forum Founders, so I would assume she's correct:

Actually, that term is also used with the USDA data, which is what fitday values are based on. I believe it stands for "No Facts Stated" usually in reference to preparation method.

I personally use that when I don't like the other choices Fitday gives me, but I'm not sure how accurate it is then.

Actually, I believe it means Not Further Specified (which is actually pretty well the same thing as No Further Statement, I guess). It comes from the underlying USDA database information, and it means there are no other details. Same is used in MasterCook and, in my experience, you can assume it's "plain unseasoned uncooked" if Not Further Specified.

Hope this helps.

Island Girl is Right!

I actually found the meaning in Fitday a few months ago, but I don't remember where.

It stands for NOT FURTHER SPECIFIED. For example when you enter coffee, NFS, you are simply not getting down to the nitty gritty. Decaf, regular, latte, yadda yadda yadda.

Now I do this with coffee, but in other cases you may want to be more specific. It could mean more/less carbs!
