Question Food allergy question....Mushrooms?

I posted this on another board but so far no answers...thought someone here might know the answer.

Does anyone know the symptons of having an allergy to mushrooms?

I have always eaten them with no problem. I started lc on March 5 of this year, about 2 weeks into it I broke out in a rash all over (not a real visable rash but itched like crazy and nothing would stop it) of course I scratched and then tiny red itchy bumps started appearing. Nothing showed on skin until scratching took place...(sorry if you are starting to itch )

I went to the dermatologist to have it checked and of course he had no clue...gave me a perscription for allergy medicine to help with the itching and a perscription for $40.00 a tube cream...which lasted about 3 days...and it didn't help.

I'm in 5 week and the itching has subsided.....until.....I ate some more mushrooms last night. I started out having them on all of my salads and maybe a few in my eggs when I started induction but for the past couple of weeks haven't been having them much.

Last night my arms started itching like crazy again...and for some reason mushroom allergy popped into my head...am I crazy or is this a possibility? I have never had any allergies before and have always loved mushrooms.

Is it possible for this wol to trigger some new reaction?
What might be some other possible side effects to an allergy.

Hope I made sense...I have trouble putting thoughts together where anyone but me can understand....and I don't always understand me.

Thanks

Hi there Miss Muffet,

Allergies can be strange things that can appear out of the blue at any time.

So yes, it could be possible that you have suddenly developed an allergy to mushrooms. But (and I'm sure the dermatologist asked you this), have you recently changed your soap, washing powder or anything else at all?

Sometimes people just develop itches and no one really knows why. Can be many causes. When it comes to controlling the itch, plain old calamine lotion seems to work better than creams. (I'm remembering a major allergy I developed to fabric softener a few years ago. The expensive cream made almost no difference. )

I would omit the mushrooms from your meals entirely for a few weeks and see what happens. If you are completely symptom free, maybe have another "test" meal with the mushies and if the itch returns with the musrooms, you'll know for sure.

Hope your itches all settle soon!

Thank you Rosebud...
OOps I didn't realize that I posted in the wrong area. Sorry guys...this board is huge it's so easy to get lost.

This wasn't any kind of itch I ever remember....it was constant and everywhere.

Your correct in first checking detergents...nothing had changed except my eating habits.

I will try your test and stay away from them for a bit and then have a test run again.
Thanks for your help

Default plain old pollen?

I don't know about the weather in North Carolina, but that was about when the pollen started in Mississippi. This year's been as bad as I can remember it being -- just piles and piles of it, all over the place. I've been so itchy all over, and I know it's all because of the stupid pollen in the air! Not to say that maybe you're not allergic to mushrooms, but you might give them another go when the weather settles down a bit...

Default MOLD ALLERGY

Might I suggest that you could be allergic to mold (as in mushrooms)? I was having a hard time when I started low carbing because I drastically increased my intake of aged cheeses (cheddar, parmesan, brie, etc.) as opposed to fresh (mozzarella, feta, string). If I eat a caesar salad and the mold count in the air is also high, I get reactions like your'e talking about. I stay away from mushrooms for the most part. Being totally overloaded becomes an ongoing problem if you're eating this stuff in greater quantities.

Just a thought...
