Question How can I make a lc white sauce?

I have a few recipes that I could do if I can make white sauce to put in it. Since there are only three ingredients; butter, flour, and milk, I'm wondering if there's an easy alternative. Would butter, cream mixed with water, and soy flour work? Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks for your help,

Hi Kathleen. Just butter and cream tastes good. If you add cheese to it, it will thicken up.

The other choice is to use an egg yolk blended into the cream before you add it to the melted butter. It will thicken up really well like that

You have to watch this carefully though and not let it boil, becaseu once it does it curdles.

Good luck
Lesley

Cool HI!

Cream, seasoning (salt pepper etc), and add a tbsp of cream cheese. Makes a very good sauce... I sometimes add lemon peel or cheese

Hi Mum-NZ,

Depending on what your recipe is, you can simply simmer cream until it has thickened. I've made souffles by doing this. Thicken the cream, add beaten egg yolks and whatever "additives" I'm using (eg crab and chives, salmon, etc), then fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

Cheese sauce made with simmered, thickened cream (I don't even bother with butter) and grated cheese is seriously yummy!
