Talking Had a Fear Factor moment this morning-

I bought some Atkins Bars for breakfast, cinnamon bun. I sat down with my coffee, took a bite and I swear (sorry) but I was gagging(hate to be so blunt). I felt like I was on Fear Factor being asked to choke down pig rectum! It was horrible. I couldnt get past the sickening sweet? taste. What a total waste of 6 bucks. I was dissappointed, thought I had found an occasional breakfast fix. Anyone tried them, had the same feeling, tried a flavor that was better. All I can say is EWWWW!

I have to agree.. I had a Cookies N Cream one and absolutely HATED it.... The bad news is, today I tried a strawberry shake and it was pretty bad, too - very chalky tasting. Not worth it, imo.

What in the world are you guys talking about?? I think they taste pretty decent. When I was in sports in High School, I used to eat these power bars that tasted like towels. They were pretty unpalateable, but definitely not disgusting.

I guess when you havent had any sugar in a while, you forget what it tastes like. I'm at the end of my first month with no sugar, and I dream of chocolate bars...

I agree the bars leave a little to be desired, however I think that the shakes are just plain tasty!

Default YES YES YES!!!

They're absolutely DISGUSTING!!!

Ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!

They taste like Play Dough. Or what I think Play Dough tastes like, anyway.

I did, however, like the no-carb chocolate (not Atkins, I tried another one, made in Canada, starts with an S, don't remember the name). Especially the Dark Chocolate one (RULED!), and the Milk Chocolate Mint (not much of a fan of the almond crunch).

Yeah yeah yeah, I know we're not allowed to have it on induction, but I tried it inbetween my first and second Induction try.

And yes, I'm guilty, I had ONE bite of it last night. It was - _literally_ - just ONE bite (like maybe 1/4th of a tiny chocolate bar), so it's not really cheating (so I got 0.05 mg of malitol in my system, it's ok, right?).

Teaselus: You mean the Ross or Pure De-Lite choco bars? Cos, yeah, they are *awesome*. So is Guylan SF and Russell Stover SF. All very good, imo.

I had an EAS low carb shake, choco fudge flavour and thought it was decent. I would buy more of those ones.

Of course, they are exactly that.. a chocolate bar (Belgian choco, at that!) and not the same thing as a protein bar...

Sorbee (sp?) sf peanut butter cups--found at walmart. They were really addictive, so I haven't had them in over a month. Those bars you're talking about (with maltitol) really messed with me gastronomically so I've never had them after the first few squares (threw rest away).

I don't care for the atkins' bars at all, but can't find any other ones low enough in carbs. I have had 3-4 atkins since I started (Jan) for when I don't feel like breakfast, I can nibble one at my desk.

Any suggestions from Vancouverites on where to get low-enough-carb bars? All I can find have 20g (have sugars).

N.

The Atkins bars are absolutely disgusting. I tried the "breakfast bar" yesterday---lemon poppy seed---and thought I would barf after the first bite. The funny thing is that Atkins' Indulge bars are really tasty, especially the chocolate caramel nougat bars. The only problem is the laxative affect if you eat too many. I also tried the Atkins chips and they were pretty good. Go figure about the bars!?!

Nikkil, there's a brand called "3Carb" that I have tried a couple of times that is pretty good. I can' recall precisely where I found it - a couple of places. I think Save On Foods at Metrotown was one - they have a pretty big "Natural Foods" section. Other than there.. I went to 3 diff healthfood stores at Lougheed Mall, and one in the Cariboo Mall on North Road.

The EAS Carb control shakes are really good (chocolate ones) the pure delite bars are delightful and the EAS Carb control bars (chocolate chip brownie) are pretty good too. Also the metabolite products that you get at wal-mart are really good too, especially the caramel ones and the peanut butter cup ones. They probably stall you out though, huh? Does anyone know if the shakes stall you out, because I drink them for a meal and I am having some problems losing.

gretchend,

it varies. Some people are not stalled, and some are. I was actually just about to write you on your other threads - regarding your concerns (although I think that you're loosing great considering where you're starting and your goal) about slow weight loss.

Try eliminating the bars, shakes, and - MOST DEFINITELY - the pure delite bars. Those last ones aren't allowed on induction (only phase 2), although I have about 1/3 of a bar a night myself - I just get to cheat because I have so much to lose, and they don't appear to stall me (although I suspect I'll have to stop it next week).

The bars and shakes are allowed, according to Atkins, but from what I've read here, they appear to stall a significant percentage of people on Atkins.
