Thumbs up Ladies: TOM and Metabolism

Last week during TOM I lost 3.5 lbs. This week after TOM I lost 4 lbs. For you ladies that hate that TOM here is some food for thought. Your metabolism is higher right before, during and right after. It is better to exercise during this time to maximize this benefit. I have also dropped 4 sizes.

I am at my halfway point and am totally sold on this WOL.

I read an article I think it was in Shape Mag. that stated this to be true...I always try to workout more when TOM is here.

Does anybody seem to crave carbs during this time? It drives me crazy!

Good for you!
LOL, who would think TOM was actually helping us with something???
After 2 months I've noticed a pattern here, some girls here confirmed that:

- approx. 1 week before TOM I feel great hunger, I eat more protein and fat. No cheats, only the legal ones. No illegal carbs!
- hunger lasts for 2 - 3 days
- some unwanted water retention is common - stay away from the scale those days!
- after TOM - a biiiiiig whoosh.
I wish the last one for all of you.

I read an article (I forgot where though - maybe Prevention??) that during TOM a woman automatically burns 4% more calories than normal.

I feel cheated, TOM came and left, leaving me (or my weight) rather at a stand still. NOW he is coming around the corner again! I have not moved since just before he showed his ugly head the first time!

MARY,

are you eating enough calories for your current weight?
Enough fat and protein?
Just a thought.

Darn - mine has been dwindling away over the past year - I should've been nicer to him when he used to come to call.

I have been suprised the last two TOMS as I have lost weight both times. I got on the scale this morning expecting to either be the same or have gone up a lb or two because of TOM only to see the lowest weight I've seen since I was pregnant with my last child. I love it...lol.

I definately crave food...not necessarily carbs, but more sweets, during that time. I let myself eat a little more cream cheese with cinnamon and splenda and that seems to do the trick. I feel like I'm always picking at something during that time...bacon, a roast...always something, so I'm glad it didn't sabotage me.

I wish that was the case with me.

I get unbelievably hungry the week before and start craving sugar and carbs. I have never lost any weight before, during or right after TOM. I only lose weight for about 2 weeks out of each month. I've been at this for 16 weeks and it's getting a bit discouraging when I see folks with the same amount of weight to lose as me and they are losing it so much faster over shorter period of time. I'm going to watch the calories and carbs this time around and see if anything changes. I'm losing about 0.5 lb a week and would like to bump it up to at least 1 lb a week. Also, I'd like to get a visit from the whoosh fairy at least one time. I feel gipped!

Default Me too!

A few days before TOM I totally have cravings for the bad stuff! It's funny because I had posted last month that I pigged out and didn't understand why. Then the next day TOM came. I always lose a little weight after. This time I'm going to exercise like crazy before, during and after. Well at least I don't get cramps anymore
