Default alcohol

I am going on vacation to Hawaii next week! I plan on having some alcohol while I am there. I have read the Atkins book and know which alcohols I can have. However, I am confused about what I can mix with it. I have read that some mix with diet colas, but I thought only Splenda drinks were okay on this, and I doubt I can order drinks mixed with Splenda. Any suggestions on drink mixers?

I drink my vodka with diet soda (7-up prefered). At home I mix my vodka with Crystal Lite and lots of ice. You can also drink Michelob Ultra (2.4 carbs per 12 oz). You can also have wine but wine has more carbs (like 3 carbs per 4 oz glass)

Yes, drink mixers at most bars will all have aspartame. Generally, if you drink aspartame in moderation it shouldn't be a huge problem. Other good choices are wines, LC beers (some light beers are okay... I think Miller Lite is only 3.5 carbs), and cocktails without sweetened spirits aka Martinis.

I usually just go with rum & diet coke and don't worry too much about the aspartame.

Have fun in Hawaii!

I also order rum and diet coke when I go to a club ( a restaurant is easier to drink a glass of wine, but not in a bar scene). A friend of mine suggested vodka and soda water (no aspartame) but it tastes like nothing to me. eeek.

Drink the good stuff, and don't mix it with anything!

Scotch, bourbon, Cognac, or top shelf Vodka are all much, much better when not diluted with cheap mixers. And most people drink more slowly that way.

Not me, but most people!

Morgan Spiced Rum and Diet Rite is very good too. I dont think having aspartame once in awhile would hurt if you dont have a choice. I usually have it once a month because I am somewhere where there isnt any Splenda products (besides water and I drink enough of that!!)

Diet Rite is now made with splenda, and it comes in at least three flavors. Cola, white grape, and tangerine (my favorite). I have mixed the cola flavor with bourbon and blended whiskey, and the tangerine would be good with vodka. Don't forget the Michelob Ultra! I have found that it doesn't throw me out of ketosis.

The Michelob Ultra has an after taste of fried chicken to me, but that just might be my wierd tastes. I don't know how much you've drank since being on the diet, but don't stress yourself out too much, when your body doesn't get many carbs, the alcohol affects you much more. It used to take me forever to even get a buzz, but now, after one drink, I'm on my way, (I feel like such a wuss), BUT, it's a heck of a lot cheaper ;-) Have a blast in Hawaii
