Default Tonic water?

Does anyone know if tonic water is safe to drink after induction? My boyfriend is very fond of vodka and tonics, but when reading the ingredients, it lists sugar, but has no nutritional label. Anyone know? Thanks!

Hi Faeriegirl,

I'm sorry to break the bad news to you, but tonic water is just like any other soft drink - full of sugar.

According to this site's carb counter, an 11oz bottle has 29.57g carbs!

There is such a thing as diet tonic water. Maybe your B/F could try that.

Thanks Rosebud,
I tried to find it on the calorie counter, but maybe it was right in front of my face, but couldn't see it. I must never have drank tonic water before - I always thought it wasn't sweet - but maybe i am thinking of something else - maybe mineral water. Doesn't matter too much to me - i don't drink myself, but I am sure that the b/f will be dissapointed. We will have to find an alternative. Thanks for your help!

Faerie Girl

I see you are in Canada - I know that the grocery stores go by different names in different provinces - where I am the "Presidents Choice" products are sold by Loblaws or the Independant Chains . PC has a diet tonic water - it is sweetned with nutrasweet - but some people do take nutrasweet on their plan. In the summer I like diet tonic with white wine and ice I like beer too but the tonic and wine is more diet friendly.

Schwepps makes a sugar free tonic water. I can't see much difference in it and the regular tonic water. I imagine it would be available in Canada, too, since it's a well known brand.

No, you're right. Tonic water isn't sweet, it's quite sour. But... still has sugar. I have found no difference between regular and diet myself. Beware if you're aspartame sensitive though... doubt there's a brand made with Splenda.

Default Tonic Water - Soda Water

I think that some people get confused between tonic water and soda water. I have seen the face of someone who said they would have a glass of tonic water when they thought it was soda water and it was a very funny expression - I would say tonic water is more bitter than sour - but it definitely is not not a no taste drink

Tonic water caontains Quinine, hence the bitter taste. Was popular in the tropics during the 19th century as a tonic and mixer. It was to help combat the effects of malaria but became a popular libation.

I personally love gin&tonic...so, here is my idea. I will have 1/2 of a normal gin & tonic. Then switch to the diet. I really don't like the diet, but if I put enough lemon and lime juice in there, it comes pretty close. Just an idea for you!
