Default Another Bar question

Hey guys,
I know there have been several threads on bars already, but responses seem so mixed! I am really undecided about the Atkins Advantage bars. On the website during induction you are encouraged to eat them, but here many people said that is wrong. I have been having strong sugar cravings already (and i have only started this morning lol!!), and was wondering if a small piece (like 1/3) of the bar would be ok? I would like to get a response from people who actually ate the bars on induction, and whether they still lost weight. Thanks!

Talking

I started on march 15th, and half way into last week I started having a bar an night.......I'm not losing at a mile a minute, but when I heard they were a No no supossedly, I stopped having em...If they have the three carbs they say they do, they are supossed to be "legal" for god sakes! I really don't know the definitive answer, but i have too wondered when i had a craving if I could just take half a bar or so...... So, I guess the only real thing to do is maybe see how it affects your weight loss.....

If they are for sure banned from induction, I guess we just have to deal

Personally, if atkins throws a carb count, and their name on a product, and you are on the diet, in any stage you should be able to have it i think hehehe

Hi there,

The bars are neither right nor wrong. They are very much a YMMV (your mileage may vary) situation. The sugar alcohols they contain are what cause problems for some folk.

How do you know if you'll be affected? The only way is to try them and see.

One more thing: sugar alcohols tend to also be laxatives and many folk (such as yours truly) avoid them for that reason.

If you go to "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen, you'll find some more sugar alcohol information.

Are you taking any supplements? I found L-Glutamine to be enormously helpful in quelling sweet cravings. I followed Dr Atkins' directions and took 500mg ½ hour before meals. Some folk find chromium helpful also.

Post Hope this helps!

This is just my opinion. Having 1/3 of a bar is not going to hurt you. If you are really craving it, have it. Many people worry that having these bars on induction will cause more sugar cravings. For some people that is true.

I like the bars BUT I don't have them often. I ate 2 - 3 of them during induction, I still lost weight. I don't eat them often because I'm trying to stick to real foods.

Another option- When I have cravings I mix 2 oz cream cheese with 1.5 tsp of unsweetend cocoa, 1 tsp splenda. It's kind of like a rich pudding dessert. There are many recipes for 'sweets' in the recipe section of this forum.

Hang in there.

I love the bars and ate them on induction. However, usually when I have one, and it is for breakfast. It is the convinence I like the most.

I have gone weeks with out them to see if they make me stall. Funny thing is, unlike many people, I still stall with ot without them (yes, everything else is in order and I still lose inches.)

I agree with Rosebud, it is a YMMV situation. You can only do what is right for you. I also agree that supplements really help with cravings as well as making sure you have enough fat in your diet.

Tongiht, I am going to make some of my own. I really don't like paying the high price plus the stores always seem to be out of the flavors that I like.
