Default Where to find black soybeans

Does anyone in T.O know where to find black soybeans? I have looked in the mainstream grocery stores near me and Bulk Barn, but found nothing.

I can easily go as far as Oshawa.

Thanks
Gina

Try a Health Food Store, canned organic or frozen organic vegetables.

My local Health Food Stores usually carry these.

Thanks so much. I don't know why I didn't think of this myself.

I actually found the Eden brand of black soy beans in the can at Save-On Foods near Metrotown, in their Natural Food section. Do you have Save On in Ontario?

I've seen Eden brand products at Zehr's in their health food section. They didn't have the black soybeans, but this is in Niagara - maybe a Toronto store would have a better selection...

Loblaws' Superstores carry Eden products in the health food section.

Just be aware ... there's a myth out there in cyberland about the Eden black soybeans, that they're only 1g ECC/net carbs per ½ cup portion. You see, they list total carbs 8g, fiber 7g. Hmmm ... I suspected that the fiber was pre-subtracted, and indeed a little calorie-math showed this to be so. Just to be sure though, I emailed the Eden company about this, and they did confirm that the fiber has been pre-subtracted.

So you count the full 8g carbs per ½ cup. Still, that's not bad for beans, and they do taste good ... nice to have some chili with beans for a change.

Talking Eden products

Hi GinaV, If you are still looking for Eden products, the Dominion at the Corner of Victoria Park and Danforth has a large selection. They also sell all of Bob's red mill items.

I buy the Kidney beans (1/2 cup =18g carb and 10g fibre)
Vegetable soup (14g carb and 8g fibre) 3/4 cup
Black Beans 18g carb and 6g fibre 1/2 cup
Vegetarian chili 18g carb and 12g fibre 1 cup

All are very good but not for everyday. Great for a shot of fibre once and a while when you're tired of flax.

This store is open 24 hours and has great selection of fish.
