Post Fiber Supplement

Hello everyone. I was just checking the info on the back of the fiber supplement my doctor recommended to me. I'm a little confused by the numbers and am hoping for some clarification from this group. It has 4g carbs, 3 g dietary fiber, and 3 g soluble fiber listed. What would the net carbs be? I'm still on induction and don't want to blow it because of this. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Teva

I don't know if dietary fiber and soluable fiber is the same thing, but I would assume that it is since the fiber count can't be higher than the total carb count. If that's the case, then the net carb would be 1g (4g carb - 3g fiber = 1g net carb).

I take Nature's Sunshine psyllium, and it has 8g of carbs and 8g of fiber = 0g net carb per one teaspoon. Maybe the 1g of net carb in your supplement comes from some form of sugar for better palatability? Mine tastes really yucky and I have to chug it down with a ton of water or I'd throw up!

Hi Teva,

Yes, the net carb count would be 1. All fibre is either soluble or insoluble. Soluble fibre seems to be a bit "kinder" - certainly is for me.

Yaseruzo, I take psyllium husks, too (soluble ) and I've found they taste marginally better if you flavour the water a little. A squeeze of lemon juice makes quite a difference.

Cheers to you both.

I use Metamucil Pills, net carbs 0g, made of the same psyllium husks with no sweeteners. I prefer pills as there's no flavor, grittiness, etc... all I need is a glass of water which I need anyhow. Good luck finding the right fiber for you. There are plenty out there with no net carbs or sugar.
God Bless,
Amy-Lynne

Default fiber

I use Benefiber. It almost completely dissolves in most beverages, and has absolutely no taste.

Total Carbs 4g - Fiber 3g = Net Carbs 1.

It works a lot better than trying to choke down that awful Metamucil.
