Unhappy Please Help-experiencing muscle fatigue & dont know why

I have been on Aikens induction for about 5 weeks. At the same time I joined a 30 minute workout gym which I really enjoy. However the past week I have been experiencing muscle fatigue and I am confused. Example- doing the weight resistance leg raises (curls) at the beginning, I could do them, not feeling the type of muscle strain, fatigue that I am feeling now. The past week it is all I can do to bring by legs up a 1/4 of the way, and not many repetitions.
Has anyone experienced the same thing, or familiar with what could be causing this!!

Melodie, are you giving your leg muscles 48 hours recovery time before your working them again?

I don't know how your diet has been progressing (i.e. if you have been strict about Induction every single day), but generally speaking, a LC diet is not the best diet for weight training. You will inevitably experience more fatigue and lift less weight than you did in the beginning of the diet because your body doesn't store any glycogen.

I have been feeling the same thing in my calves. It feels like I hiked 15 miles up the side of a steep moutain, which I did not do. The muscles ache for what appears to be no reason. I want to know why, and if there is something that I can do to help the situation!

Thanks for posting your question- good luck!

You may also want to examine what kind of supplementation you're using. A good dose of calcium, magnesium, and potassium usually solves any leg aches I feel. Those minerals help to replenish electrolytes lost as LC acts as a natural diuretic. In addition, you may want to add glutamine after workouts. It REALLY helps muscle recovery.

Since I've been weightlifting, I'm up to 30-40 carbs a day and wouldn't want to eat much less. I feel my after weights meal of a carb-free fat-free protein drink with a scoop of glutamine and half an apple is pretty essential to my muscles feeling their best.

Hope you figure out what works for you. Make sure you're letting your muscles rest and recover!

Melodie, what you are experiencing is pretty normal. What has happened is you have completely depleted your muscle glucogen. This in a way is a good thing, as you are following Atkin's however it is bad when trying to do weight bearing exercises.

On the days you lift weight, you will probably need to do what most of us have learned, increase your carbohydrates around your workouts. Start out by eating something with complex carbohydrates 45 mins before a workout.

Normally how I work this is on days that I lift my carb count is around 80 to 100 per day and on cardio days it stays around 30. You will probably need to experiment a bit to find the right match for your metabolism. I am willing to bet when you increase your carbs on lift days you will find that lost energy and strength.
