Default Where Can I find Suggestions

Hi again. I am looking at my numbers for the day and my protein is way too high and my fat is too low. What suggestions do you have for upping the fats?

Gail

Hi there,

Initially, I had the same dilemma.

The ways I've increased my fat inatke are very basic. I simply tried to eat cheese and butter with every meal; and, was very generous with full fat salad dressings, like rich Ranch, Caesar, and Blue cheese.

Also, with meats, I've tried to choose the more fatty cuts. For instance, opt for ribeyes over sirloins; or, the "prime rib" roasts over leaner "pot roast" type cuts etc.....

I've also started using olive oil generously while snacking on nuts--I prefer Macadamias and plain peanuts.

You'd be amazed at how eating a little of the above during most meals will dramatically up your fat inatke. It certain has mine.

Good luck!

Hi Gail,

I go with everything Frederick said---plus whipping cream (don't go overboard, though).

Just try to stay away from "Trans FAts" such as margarin. You will feel great eating more fat. You will also stay fuller longer.

And isn't that a great thing?

I'm not sure why you want to keep your calories so low doing Atkins, but I can see you're an experienced low carber, so......
have you noticed a journal here by Julie Huck? She seems to have a similar plan, that you might find interesting.

Her journal is here....

Hi gkeenan!

don't know about 1,300 limit given your current weight. I've been instructed to stay within the 10X-12X my current body weight so at 125, I eat between 1,250-1500. Usually I eat 1,495.

Fats... do you like olives? Plus, i put melted butter or olive oil on everything! Then supplement with high fat cheeses.

I'm just now embrasing the high fat portion of this and need to know how to do it without tipping the cals...thanks for all the help.

1300 is not enough calories for you! If you go under your BMR (basil metabolic rate), your body will go into a "starvation mode" and will hold on to the weight as if you're starving. Pretty soon, no matter how low cal you go, your body will not let you lose weight because it thinks you're trying to starve it. I suggest you eat at least your BMR to avoid that! This isn't a unlimited calorie diet, but it's definitely not a low calorie diet, so eat up!

BMR...what is that...how do I get it? Anything over 1500 and I gain weight, have from the beginning. It has only been in the past two months since I've gone to this cal. count that I've actually seen a loss in over year.

Default starvation mode??

everyone keeps suggesting that if we go below the 10x our body weight, then our body will think that we are in starvation mode. this can't be true because on other diet plans (weight watchers, jenny craig, etc.), the idea is to stick to a 1000-1200 calorie diet so where does this whole starvation idea come from? if the other diets say it is o.k. to eat only 1200 calories, then why does everyone on this board keep telling us we wont lose??

Two words to up fat intake: hollandaise sauce. Yum!

The calories are high but if you're in Induction, calories shouldn't be an issue for you anyway.

In the newbie section I just read a post about the calorie requirements. One of the members emailed the Atkins Center and the reply was that calorie intake should be 10x-12x your goal weight. Seems way different then what some think. I guess maybe I should email them, too just so I know its real. I've been sitting here wondering how I could get more calories in. (I'm on day 6 of induction and the past two days I've been so uninterested in food.) Then find out I'm doing fine.

Default Less

Eat a little less protein. It will work. It never hurts to eat less.

Good Luck!
