Question Dry mouth, anyone?

DH and I have both been bothered with extremely dry mouths while sleeping. It's the craziest thing! Sometime's I wake in the night and can't even swallow, there's just NOTHING there! SO DRY! I keep water by my bedside and am drinking water during the day. I was just wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

I also experience this and thus sleep with a humidifier on all night during the winter time. I rarely had this before LCing....can't explain why but you're not alone. I just keep a bottle of water handy to drink during the night.

Finally someone else with the same thing! I haven't heard of anyone else with this on this forum! I'm not crazy!

Yes, it is unbelievably dry! But, on the bright side, It helps me drink my water.

From what I've read this is occuring because you're drinking more water on this diet, funny enough.

Your body is used to storing up so much water because of carbs and lack of water that when you go on this diet and start drinking alot of water you get your natural sense of thirst back.

You're body is thirsty more often now because you're not retaining as much water because it knows its getting water on a regular basis. Happened to me as well.

Hope it helped

Post Oh boy...

I thought I was a weirdo for drinking TONS of water during the day and then waking up with such a dry mouth. Saturday I woke up and my lips were stuck together (ok, so that's weird ).

It's nice to know that we're not alone in this!

Happy LCing!
Nikki

Default me too

I have the dry mouth too, during the day at night when I go to bed and worse when I wake up..my whole mouth area feels a ketosis stank dry desert in the morning lol. This is even with the humidifier running...I checked it a few mornings to make sure it was on and working. lol

And yes like mentioned it does help me to drink that water!!! 180 oz on some days.

me three.

I figured it was because I'm sleeping so much better now -- couldn't wake me with a fog horn in my ear kind of deep sleep -- that my mouth is sagging open (attractively of course) and getting all dried up like a desert. I used to breathe through my nose while sleeping, but now I wake up all slack-jawed.

The water explanation makes much more sense though ;-)

Oh yes, take a 16 oz bottle to bed with me. Either I'm drinking it or the dogs are and I don't think they have learned to unscrew the cap.

I get a dry mouth at night too but I also drink so much water during the day I usually have to wake up once or twice during the night to visit the washroom. My mouth is dry but my body is saying it has too much water and needs to get rid of it and it can't wait until morning. I just wish my body would figure out whether it is water logged or is experiencing a water shortage.

I'm experiencing this during the day as well. I think it is kind of odd that the more water you drink the more thirsty I am. How can i be thirsty when I have a 20 oz bottle attached to my hand!!!

I can down a 16oz bottle of water, then 5 minutes later my mouth is dry again. I don't have the problem at night though, which is good, but I do have a natural humidifier in my bedroom - a fishtank.

I don't ever remember having or reading about this issue last time I did Atkins which was last Spring. So it may just be the dry air.

Let's start up this thread again in mid April to see how we are doing. Also note if it stops when you advance from Induction.
