Question question about induction

Hi,
I have been doing the induction for 10 days. The first 7 days I lost 7 pounds. These last 3 days I have not last a pound. I added the Atkins bars to my daily diet, and my carb count is not even close to 20. But I have an idea after reading the posts that maybe this is what is making me stahl out. If the Atkins bars can do that to you why is it ok to eat pork rinds. Those are not on the list of things to eat? What do you think?

I think it's because Atkins bars have sugar alcohol in it while the pork rinds are just pork skin fried in oil with a little salt added to it. Some people here says that artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols stall them out and wreak havok on their tummies. I personally think the Atkins bars are horrible, so I don't have any problems staying away from them. Pork rinds have many uses, and I especially like to melt cheese on it and eat them with sour cream and salsa

Hey, 7 pounds in 10 days, that's pretty darn good!

Sounds like you've had a great first 2 weeks on Atkins! Keep up the good work!

It's hard to know what could have stopped your weight loss these last 3 days. It could be the Atkins bars because your body may be thinking, because of the sweet taste, that it is getting sugar and may be releasing insulin to get ready to metabolize it. The reason the porkrinds would be ok on induction, but only in small amounts and not every day, is because they do not contain sugar or carbs (plain variety, not the barbecue, etc.) and the pancreas is not recognizing an insurge of what it believes to be sugar.

My suggestion would be first of all to drop the Atkins bars for a few days and see if that helps. Our bodies are all unique in their makeup and what one person can "get by with" another may not be able to. Secondly, start an online journal under the Bootcamp/Journal board and post your daily menu there. I usually post my previous day's menu each day. Look and read some of the journals....they are public domain, so to speak, and you can learn a lot there and pick up some great tips as well. Also, you may be getting some hidden carbs that you are not counting. Have you tried www.fitday.com as a means of tracking your daily intake of carbs, calories, etc. If you are not getting enough calories, you may also be sending your body into starvation mode where it latches onto what would normally be disposed of thinking that there is a famine coming. One other thing that comes to mind is variety. Don't bore your body with the same old foods. You will be more likely to stick with this if you enjoy a variety of the foods that are acceptable.

Keep up the good work. Just remember that your successes are your successes, not anyone else's. God made each one of us differently, and we should embrace our uniqueness. You're doing great, and you will find the niche you need to be in in order to maintain a steady weight loss.

Marsha

Pork skins ARE permitted on Induction because pork skins are MEAT.

The reason those bars may be responsible for stalling you is that the carbs you're permitted not to count - the carbs from the sugar alcohols - MAY affect you just as if they were sugar. They do me! If I eat one of those things, I have to count ALL the carbs AND it bumps me out of ketosis. Maltitol affects me JUST like sugar.

Pork skins (or rinds as they're called in the US) are definitely allowed because they are simply fried pork fat with a bit of the skin attached. Fat is not restricted on Atkins. The only caution I would give with pork rinds is that they often contain high amounts of sodium which will cause a lot of people to retain water, so if you do decide to enjoy them, make sure that you drink plenty of water.

Thank you so much for all of your insight. I have cut the bars out of my diet, and in a week I will let you know how my weight loss is going. I am also planning on writing my daily journal down. I think if this happens again, then being able to help me will be easier. Thanks again.
