Question Poll: To Snack or not to Snack?

If I go without food for any length of time, I go crazy... I'm not hungry, but after some time without food my thoughts just return to it more and more. I wonder if anybody else has that problem?

I could never do with just three meals a day. I usually have a mid-morning snack after breakfast, an afternoon snack before dinner, and a late-night snack as well. Makes it really hard to control my food intake, and I wish I could stop doing that...

Anyway, I'm wondering how you all feel about snacking in between meals. Do you do it? And what do you eat? How often, how much?

Thumbs up Snacking

I am definitely a snacker! Mid-afternoon I usually have a bite or two of an Atkins Advantage Bar (Almond Fudge is my favorite). In the evening I almost always have a 1" cube of Swiss Cheese - Kraft brand has sooooo much flavour

Snacking is good for you! It helps regulate your blood sugars, which helps do this way of life correctly. Dr. Atkins recommends eating at least once every 6 hours, so keep up the good work!

Low carbing has completely eliminated my desire to snack. I used to be hungry between meals all the time but now, never. Three meals is plenty for me now.

Because I am up at 5:00 a.m. daily, I eat my breakfast at around 7am so by 10-11 a.m. I am famished and thus I have a snack at that time - small snack like 1 oz nuts, some cheese or pepperoni....than a normal lunch at around 1:30 pm and dinner at 6pm. My dinner is usually protein & veggie and keeps me sated until bedtime so I rarely snack in the evening.

Yep, I snack. Usually some nuts or vegies and cheese in the mid afternoon with a cup of herbal tea. Sometimes in the evening, same thing unless there is LC cheesecake then I'll have that.

Unless you have a problem with compulsive overeating and are recovering from it, there is no reason at all for you not to eat when you're hungry. Low-carbing is about controlling carb intake, not food intake. Eat 6 smaller meals if you're more comfortable doing that. It keeps your meatbolism revved.

Eat!

Default hi, my name is acipenser, and i am a snacker

i have a snack between breakfast and lunch, and i have a snack between lunch and dinner. i sometimes have an after dinner treat, but not usually.

my snacks are "legal ones" and i think of it as more like i just eat 5 meals a day, 2 are smaller then the 3, but they are all smaller than what i would consider a normal meal.

No snacking for me. I do much better when I don't. Not hungry between meals anyway. LC did that to me

I don't snack every day, but generally when I do, it's in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon. For some reason, I never really get the urge for evening snacks any more.

I snack a lot. In fact, many days, I don't even eat *meals*, I just graze all day. Moo!

Cool

I usually don't feel hungry, and don't snack. Once and a while I'll find myself needing something when I get home before I cook supper, but I'm usually ok. Sometimes in the evening I get that snacky feeling, but when I think about it, I'm not really hungry, just looking for something to do, so I resist that one.
When I do snack, I try for some protein/fat. Say, pepperettes or cheddar. I don't eat/drink any of the artificial stuff yet, though I've been thinking of adding some splenda to a berry smoothy for some sweetness, so that I get all the benefits of the berry's without it tasting blah

3 meals a day is usually enough for me, but there are times when I get hungry between lunch and dinner or between dinner and bedtime. Before I snack, I usually stop and ask myself if I'm really hungry or if it's something else (boredom, thirst, etc...). Often I'll have a large glass of water first because sometimes thirst will feel similar to hunger.
All in all, if I'm hungry, I eat something but as I have to keep reminding my kids a snack is just that....a snack; not an entire meal.
