Question Japanese Bean Thread noodles

Hello All!

So far so good. I am really enjoying the fact you don't get as hungry without carbs/sugar in my life. Having less success cutting off my daily martini...but that's another story.

My question.

I love Sunomuno Salad and wondered if anyone knows what the carb count is on japanese bean thread noodles. Made in China, they are those almost clear, skinny noodles and the only ingredients listed are green beens and peas.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jag

Here's a link re: bean thread noodles...

Japanese Bean Thread Noodles - Nutritional Info

They were pesky to track down... but maybe this site will help if you run across any other unusual ingredients in the future.

Here's the good news. Do you live in Vancouver?

Fujiya at the corner of Clark and Venables has a noodle made from seaweed that is very similar to bean thread and is extremely low in carbohydrates. Nice crunchy texture. It's in the cold case where the pickles are kept.

You can make a very similar salad using finely shredded cabbage too.

Now, here's the bad news...

Dried bean threads contain 86.10 g of carbs and .50 of fiber for 100 grams. I found that info right on this site in our carb counter at the top of the page but used the other name for bean threads which is cellophane noodles.

Tried opening the site lisa, but got an error message. It sounds interesting!

Smile Thanks Karen!

Thanks you for the information. I currently live in Sidney but may be relocating to Vancouver soon.

In the mean time, Victoria has many Asian markets and I will search for the seaweed noodles here.

Thanks again, and you've got a great site here

cheers,

Jag

Karen, what is that seaweed noodle called? I'm nowhere near Vancouver but I thought I'd try the asian groceries near me. Unless it's something they make right in that store you mentioned.

thanks! Sarah

Ha! Just remembered something. Shirataki noodles are low in carbs. They're water packed and refrigerated. A good substitute for cellophane noodles.

Shirataki

Default Can anyone tell I love to Google???

shirataki
[shee-rah-TAH-kee]
Thin, translucent, gelatinous noodles made from the starch of a yamlike tuber known as Devil's Tongue. Shirataki, which are the shredded form of KONNYAKU, have no discernable taste but absorb the dominant flavors of the soup or dish to which they're added. They can be found both in dry and soft forms in Asian markets and some supermarkets. The word shirataki means "white waterfall," alluding to the appearance of these noodles.

(from the Food Dictionary)

And here is a site of a Japanese food supplier/distributor (?) scroll down and you'l find some different packaging for the shirataki - with 0g of carbs per 1oz of noodles...
