Default Can I use Flour???

Hello Folks,

In an effort to diversify my eating program I bought a roast a couple of days ago that I want to cook today. Then I thought about the way I planned to cook the roast.

I wanted to use a Reynolds Oven Bag, but the bag calls for a tablespoon of flour shaken in the bag before I put the roast in the bag. I would like to use the bag because they are great in reducing the amount of cooking time required to cook meat and they also allow the meat to retain its moisture and flavor much better than traditional means of cooking.

Will this cause havok to my low carb WOE? Should I look at alternative methods to cook the roast?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Gammite,

glad you are choosing the Low Carb approach, sure you will love it and feel much better over time!

Depends, here, are you on the induction phase right now?

If its only 1TBsp of flour, well, I would say dont sweat the small stuff... but, you could also try NOT putting the flour in and see what happens. The other thing you could maybe try is to buy some plain protein powder (or whey powder) and substitute that for the flour.

My boyfriend often substitutes whey powder for flour in muffins and loaves that he bakes.... yes, I am lucky, he likes baking!!!!

hope this is helpful!

Cheers,
j

Hiya Gammite,

Once upon a time in the olden pre LC days, I always added flour to roasts so they'd brown well. Now I don't even have any flour in the house, and my roasts are as yummy as ever. They are still pretty brown - possibly a little less brown, but still looking fine.

So I'd try it without the flour - it'll still be moist and flavoursome.

Cheers, mate.

Default flour

I always thought the flour was to help keep the meat from sticking to the bag!

If you don't use flour, please let us know how it turns out.

Thanks

Hello Again,

The roast was wonderful. Tender, juicy and flavorful. If I can continue to diversify my choices I see no problem in maintaining this WOE. I just am going to have to plan time to cook.

Thanks again for the help,

gammite

Default beef broth

I normally add some beef broth to my bag, I like my food juicy so it tends to be a bit more tender when you add broth, its also good as juice on your sliced meat.....

I also do this to turkey when I bake it in a bag, or whole chickens.... I have never had a problem with not adding flour....
