Default Strange sensation/taste in my mouth, is that normal?

Hi,

I have a question...I have this sensation in my mouth, kind of tingly, kind of like you ate something too hot and burned your mouth, but it's also a bit silvery tasting. I know this is strange, and it' s hard to describe, but my main question is, does anyone else have this and is it normal during induction. I have done the low carb way before, but Protein Power, and I got more carbs every day on that diet. I just wonder if it's the lower carbs or could it be too many minerals in my diet. I take a multi, plus extra calcium, potassium and magnesium to supplement my multi. I don't want to overdose on vitamins....

If anyone can understand what I'm talking about, I'd love some advice or feedback....

Thanks,
Jaymie

Default Hi jaymierp

I beleive this means your body is in ketosis. I didnt really understand it myself until just yesterday. I am on my 3rd week of induction and it didnt start until then. Have you read in the book about ketosis?

Thanks pokey...I understand ketosis, I didn't realize it made your taste buds fizzy though....If it's ketosis, great! I just don't want to be overdosing on my minerals..that was my worry!

I appreciate your reply, it's so great to ask a question and someone answers it right away....I just love this board!

Have a great day!
Jaymie

Yep honey....what you have is what we lovingly call Keto-Mouth!!!

Drink lots of water...and chewing fresh parsley is wonderful for the breath and full of vitamins.

It may be annoying..but remember it's a good thing!!!

Default Thanks You!

Thanks for helping! I had read here and there about the "breath"...but I was expecting just that, not the tingly feeling...so I was a bit concerned. I have another quick question, you mentioned drinking LOTS of water....I am/do/have been drinking lots of water, at least 100+ oz a day. I read that sometimes the keto-mouth is because you are not drinking enough water and that could be the cause....should I drink even more water, if thats possible at this point, or am I just prone to have that, since I am drinking a lot of water as it is?

I do know that since it's occured, I've been drinking even more water trying to allieviate the feeling. And, it's not helped a bit, so I am just trying to adjust to having it.....lol

Thanks again for everyones help!

Jaymie

Post Hello

I have experienced the keto breath.. I chew sugarless gum ,but careful 2g carbs per piece. Anyway, I don't mind it now because it just lets me know my body is in fat burning mode!

I have a funny sweet taste in my mouth, too, which I am betting is a good thing. I just got an Atkins catalog, and saw zero carb sugar free gum. I think I'll order some, and tell y'all if it is worth the cost.
