Question Fibercon? Good?

Hello, is Fibercon pills a good thing to take to help out with, well you know what I'm talking about while low-carbing? Just starting and do not want to have any problems with the plumbing down there!

Thanks,
Corey

Corey, fiber supplements are something many of us use to keep things regular. There are a few types of fiber supplements availalbe, the 3 biggies are:
  • Psyllium supplements = 7 grams in 8 oz of liquid (up to 3x/day)
  • Methylcellulose = 10.2 grams in 8 oz of liquid (up to 3x/day)
  • Polycarbophil = 1 gram (2 caplets) per day (maximum of 4 grams daily)

Fibercon is calcium polycarbonphil which is a chemically altered form of cellulose (the cell wall of many plants) - the chemical alteration make it resistant to bacterial breakdown.

Depending on the cost of your Fibercon you might try psyllium or flax seeds in the future, both of which can be bought in bulk and added to shakes or taken with water.

With any fiber supplement remember to increase your water intake, as fiber and insufficient water can lead to the opposite of the desired effect. Also be sure not to have other supplements within 2 hours of taking the Fibercon (or any other bulking fiber) as it will interfere with their absorption.

Don't forget your veggies as well - broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts and cabbage are all high in fiber and legal on even Induction

HTH
Nat

Corey,

Psyllium Husks come in capsule form as well. I've always had difficulty thinking of drinking something like that,

They work well, you take 2 capsules every morning 30minutes to an hour before breakfast with at least 8 oz of water (i do 20oz) and it keeps things rolling.

Yes, and the same holds true for prescription meds too ... especially hormones, such as BCP's, HRT and thyroid. Take these meds at least an hour before or 2 hrs after fiber supplements.
